We should return the favor by shipping a few thousand AR-15s to Hong Kong.

157
ArcDoe 157 points ago +158 / -1

This is the way. Stop enforcing ITAR to regions threatened by Chang.

So India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, The Philippines, Tibet, etc.

21
r4ptur3 21 points ago +22 / -1

Let’s get this straight: Assault rifle parts. I’m curious what part exactly, as the lower receiver is the controlled component (serial#).

14
Choctaw 14 points ago +15 / -1

I'm wondering myself. Was this to be mated with earlier shipments or later ones? Assembling at some later point in time.

6
Jikemenkins 6 points ago +7 / -1

Im guessing mil-spec burst or auto trigger groups? Or AK pattern trigger groups?

11

What is ITAR?

It also puts annoying burdens on companies that manufacture anything that can be used in a weapon (components, circuit boards, etc). I think even some software has been put under ITAR restrictions.

That's one of the things I liked about Trump. Over time lots of laws and regulations become meaningless but are still present. The government never updates just puts things on top of things increasing our burdens. His whole remove 20 regulations to pass a new one when he was first elected was a nice take on this growing problem.

Government is mostly lawyers and ran by bureaucrats they love these complicated bs because it makes them feel smarter and useful. At times I believe lawyers in government are just there to ensure their profession will always exist.

4
Juicebusters 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is a common belief and for whatever reasons many people mistakenly believe China has a tremendous military and is a legitimate US 'rival power' too. Various ideas go around.

Look, I thought this too even after I was living in the PRC for years. It wasn't until I took a close look that I started to realize they have precious little.

At this point I don't even know if I believe they have nukes and certainly not as many as they'd claim. Their ICBMs wouldn't make it past Taiwan never mind any chance of clearing the pacific ocean.

They barely have a Navy. Japan would arm it's 'Civil Defense' and utterly annihilate every Chinese ship on the water in 6 days or less.

But more than all that, they are in the worst possible place to ever be at any kind of international war when India would delight in fucking them up on the West taking full advantage. Taiwan and half of Hong Kong would be deeeelighted to watch the PRC use up all its fireworks. Most vulnerable of all is that they are easy to siege as UK, US, France etc absolutely have the entire ocean locked whenever they feel like it. They'd run out of food and oil fast.

And add to all this the most serious flaw in PRC's entire war machine (if it ever had to act) is that they are incompetent, stupid, amateur goofs who get stumped by things like 'Linear thinking' and having most of their leadership made up of 'Rich Kids' who are .. well, imagine a bunch of Trust Fund Kids running anything but with 8th grade educations, masters degrees anyway and primarily worried about their collection of Air Jordans.

Worse than all worse things - 20 minutes after rallying their nation against the evil Americans - China splits into 6.5 different rival factions who somehow mass-murder each other to astonishing levels in horrifying ways.

Realistically, Japan today in 2020 could take over China. Japan + Taiwan would stomp Beijing. Mainland China is a 'Paper Tiger' but the paper is super shiny looking with a brick pattern and that's about it.

1
Truthdose 1 point ago +1 / -0

Eh...You could honestly apply the rehtoric from the 2003 run up to China with the virus they unleashed upon the world(they intentionally left their international airports open and closed their national ones)

Except this time, it would be true...I wonder why we have not had the same reaction.................

Maybe Saddam Hussien did not buy democrats off?

If they had lowers then yes, if no than parts aren't regulated and you get the rest anywhere. Would like to believe but without lowers in the batch it could just be chinese businesses doing what they do all the time. Sending components to the US and avoiding taxes for profit.

31
kjj9 31 points ago +32 / -1

The story was very light on details, which made me wonder the same thing. Was China trying to arm an "insurgency" in the US? Or were these parts headed for retail sale to regular Americans?

I have a number of hobbies that involve building things - PCB design and fabrication, desktop CNC milling, 3D printing, etc. About a dozen years ago I started to notice that nearly everything I bought from Digikey could be bought from China, on ebay, for a fraction of the cost.

(Some were the actual same parts, from the actual same factories, just shipped out the side door. Others were cheap knockoffs. Others were pulls and recycles cleaned and sold as "new" or "NOS" - that last one is the plague among people trying to restore vintage gaming consoles, mostly Commodores.)

Not thinking much of it at the time, I started buying those parts. Half of them had customs forms on them that were clearly machine printed, but printed to look like they had been hand written. I don't know how many parcels I received that claimed to be "free samples" or "gifts" but were actually bundles of microcontrollers or industrial chemicals, but it was a lot.

I think that a lot of people, even those of us here who are fairly "woke" to the China problem, underestimate just how slimy these people are. Putting aside the question about whether our genes dictate what kinds of cultures people create, the Chinese people have created a culture and a government with nearly zero values in common with Western Civilization.

Rickshawrick 40 points ago +41 / -1

10k parts. And they only came from China. Some asshat locally ordered them.

This shouldn't be stickied.

More than likely it's knock off cheap fucking Magpul counterfeits.

17
localhost 17 points ago +17 / -0

My thoughts exactly. Probably just a local gun shop with some warehouse space ordered some cheap chinesium UTG rails and other shit like that to sell.

7
BeefyBelisarius 7 points ago +7 / -0

And the importer mislabeled them, maybe trying to get through customs cheaper or something.

DRKMSTR 5 points ago +6 / -1

AK parts kits from what it looks like.

Rickshawrick 3 points ago +3 / -0

the part I saw looked like an AR fire selector.

cheap Chicom crap.

1
DRKMSTR 1 point ago +1 / -0

Really? Because people already import that stuff illegally far too often and you don't see that in the news.

3
NotRealDemSocialism 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah, probably some parts kits that were considered easily convertible to automatics. Not familiar with AKs, but the equivalent of a lower with a third hole. Our maybe the parts kits included seers

1
TankedCommandeerer 1 point ago +1 / -0

You can do that shit with a coat hanger and 1 minute of your time so it isn't worth the 10 years in prison you'd get for buying one or for even building one before shit actually hits the fan.

2
NotRealDemSocialism 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don't disagree, but that doesn't mean there isn't a market for them. They get sold, people buy them.

A small Chinese shop would love to sell a hundred units with the kind of markup they can expect from a unit like that.

1
DRKMSTR 1 point ago +1 / -0

I doubt chinese mfg's can do AR15 lowers at a good price. The tooling to do it cost-effectively is very expensive and the quality required to get it to work is high.

16
AlohaChris 16 points ago +17 / -1

27
PantsJihad 27 points ago +28 / -1

My thoughts exactly. If we're talking roll pins or something, whoopie shit. If we're talking DIAS (Drop In Auto Sears) or something like that, then we've got something to talk about.

However, that said, any restriction on the right to bear arms is wrong.

5
kag-2020- 5 points ago +5 / -0

any restriction on the right to bear arms is wrong.

Not when it comes to foreign Communists operating within our borders.

9
curlbaumann 9 points ago +10 / -1

Lowers I’m guessing

11
JudgeWhoAllowsStuff 11 points ago +11 / -0

ATF has creatively interpreted that part in the past. They redefined an entire shipment of plastic airsoft guns as AR lowers because they claimed you could maybe remachine them into lowers.

2
GrabLifeByThePussy 2 points ago +3 / -1

We'll.... They aren't wrong.... Some of these airsoft replicas are damn close to the real deal. You seen one? I never thought of it before you mentioned it but it wouldn't be impossible to convert a toy lower into a real lower depending on the specs and quality of manufacturing. I have a polymer lower. Doesn't fit perfectly with uppers but it does fit and does fire.

6
JudgeWhoAllowsStuff 6 points ago +6 / -0

Young guys and those who haven’t been into firearms very long are a bit naive to the ATF’s fuckery. When they say easily convertible, they mean it can be done by a team of ATF tech branch engineers in a full lab with machine tools that could also manufacture firearms from scratch if they wanted to.

3
BeefyBelisarius 3 points ago +3 / -0

Doesn't look like it from the pictures in the article. Whatever it was, 10k fit into 32 gallon zipper bags. Too bad they took the pictures with them in the bags, glare makes it impossible to tell what's inside.

Did you read the article though?

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/local-media-release/10800-assault-weapons-parts-seized-cbp-louisville

I suggest looking up how to turn an AR 15 full auto.

Y'all don't know weapons. Keep acting fresh while communists commit acts of war...

2
I_Love_45-70_Gov 2 points ago +3 / -1

The article you linked offered very little useful information.

While I'm typing, I'll offer a WAG as to what those parts aren't. I don't think they are lowers because actual (or Chi-Com manufactured) M16 lower would require far to much effort for our inner-city folk to turn into a working select fire rifle.

I mean, what respectable, crack-smoking thug would possess the working knowledge of the AR15/M16 platform, much less have access to auto sears, springs, roll pins?

I'd guess the parts could be DIASs, but then what good are they if one can't mill an AR15 lower?

Can't mill a lower? Then use a Lightning Link, or even a Swift Link. But, again, using these devices will require a fair bit of mechanical and gun smithing know-how, along with armorer's tools, neither of which are generally found in your average urban environment.

Since I'm a complete dumbass when it comes to firearms, what is your expert opinion on what parts were actually shipped?

0
thegeebeebee 0 points ago +3 / -3

https://mobile.twitter.com/CBP/status/1277062666801033217 this photo isn't cropped. You can see a nice pen for size comparison.

You misinterpreted me. I'm saying this isn't a nothing burger.

They look like DIAS shapes and sizes to me.

You are also caught up thinking that only cracked out gangbangers want these things. Not sure why. It fundamentally altered your take on the matter and you excluded how easy lowers are to customize.

Open the tweet, look at the photo and the size and shape are pretty informative. I'm countering the claim this is a nothing burger. Ignorance of what these parts are explains the attitude.

I thought we trusted the Border Patrol around here. At least I do.

1
I_Love_45-70_Gov 1 point ago +1 / -0

I trust the Border Patrol completely; however, I took in the possibility that they used a stock photo/s, or that the full load caught as not being displayed.

IOW, I find it difficult to believe there are 10k parts in the above picture. To even come close, each of those thirty-two, 1/2 liter sandwhich bags would need to have 312.5 parts inside and be valued at $4062.50. Nope....

I could suppose that is the full haul and each bag has 312.5 parts each and are valued at $4062.50, which would value each part at roughly $13.00/part. One could probably fit that many roll pins in a baggy, but who would pay upwards of $20.00 (markup minus s&h) for a roll pin? And how are extra-expensive roll pins a threat to our national security? Simply put, they're not.

What I also doubt is that those are DIASs, or anything closely related to stirring up shut by the Chi-Coms. Again, DIASs take milling the lower -- a lot of milling for the average individual.

Somewhere ITT it was suggested this being a local FFL or gunsmithing enthusiast gaming their customers with knockoff parts, which is far more likely an explanation.

Lastly, I was thinking St. Louis, not Louisville.

-2
thegeebeebee -2 points ago +1 / -3

So we agree this isn't a nothing burger. Thanks

1
I_Love_45-70_Gov 1 point ago +1 / -0

Somewhere ITT it was suggested this being a local FFL or gunsmithing enthusiast gaming their customers with knockoff parts, which is far more likely an explanation.

You either did not read any of my reply, or you need to brush up on your reading comprehension.

spez: I do agree the the Chi-Coms are dicks and a threat to our democracy. I just don't believe this "arms shipment" is an example of their usual bullshit.

26
f_bastiat 26 points ago +27 / -1

I'd be interested to see what the parts were, I imagine this has more to do with someone trying to skirt restrictions and regulations to sell their cheap chinesium parts, and less about some arms conspiracy.

Stepheddit 15 points ago +15 / -0

Probably, gun parts suppliers in the US often buy thousands of "parts kits" from various european countries (no longer allowed to buy from Russia, fuckin idiots) and sell those kits to builders who use them to build a legal pistol/rifle.

These could simply be tons of Chinese AK parts kits that didn't follow the proper procedure for importation.

ApocolipticPePe 3 points ago +3 / -0

This is what I was thinking, with the current market someone is trying to make a buck

22
Unobtainium 22 points ago +23 / -1

Hard to tell exactly what the parts are in the bags. I wonder some entrepreneurial Floridian ordered a bunch of the totally-not-a-suppressor "oil filters" (labeled as "pins") that have been making the rounds on Aliexpress, Wish, etc. hoping to resell.

The bags are almost the size of the piece of copy paper above them. An auto sear is closer to the size of a postage stamp. So the shape of the bag would have little to do with the contents in that case.

MAN CAUGHT SMUGGLING ASSAULT PARTS

1
BeefyBelisarius 1 point ago +1 / -0

Even funnier, an assault gun is literally an obsolete type of armored vehicle. They ship ov a bunch of stugs or something?

1
DankoJones84 1 point ago +1 / -0

Because "assault gun" sounds scary and bad, that's why!

All gun laws are an infringement, but I'm not okay with this. I'm sick of South American Cartels and criminals getting to own automatic weapons inside the US, but I can't.

I want automatic weapons too.

SloOlePede 2 points ago +2 / -0

I was really hoping that 2 years of GOP control would get us the Hearing Protection Act and a repeal of the FOPA. Thanks Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell et al. thanks for nothing.

3
2ifByPee 3 points ago +3 / -0

You've missed one of the red pills. Republicans and Democrats both propose legislation to energize and excite their base that they never have any intention of passing. We're never going to silencers back and the left is never going to get UBI.

The difference is we used to have silencers. They've never had UBI.

3
OnlyAmerica 3 points ago +3 / -0

Stop calling them silencers like the idiotic Karens. They are suppressors.

2
2ifByPee 2 points ago +2 / -0

They are called Silencers in the ATF paperwork. Citation: I have an Osprey 45 that took a year to process.

1
SloOlePede 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't expect to get tax free suppressors any more but I was hopeful in 2016.

9
Skywise 9 points ago +9 / -0

Their ultimate destination was Melbourne Florida.

I'm extremely curious if this was arms supplying to antifa or a gun dealer getting around ATF rules as they don't even look like full weapons from the pics. I'm tending towards the latter, especially with the "scary words" ASSAULT GUNS.

Not AR-15s, not ASSAULT WEAPONS - "assault guns"

7
Dialectic 7 points ago +7 / -0

Assault gun parts? Heh.

I didn’t see a description of the actual contents. Do reporters even exist?

2
Paul_Revere 2 points ago +2 / -0

Do reporters even exist?

Not intelligent ones.

And certainly not ones who know anything at all about firearms.

7
ginoB 7 points ago +8 / -1

Heres some sauce : CBP.GOV

The picture with the bags of black parts is legit. Let's take a closer look.

Fun fact, the CBP has this file named as 'Firearms 1'

Let's change the name to 'Firearms 2'

Now we are getting somewhere

Looks like they are receivers, parts kits

7
RU_joe_king 7 points ago +7 / -0

Looks like a safety selector switch.

6
ginoB 6 points ago +7 / -1

Yes, each bag looks like a receiver and parts kit

1
DankoJones84 1 point ago +1 / -0

OMG Chinese assault safeties are on our streets?! Ban them NOW!!

4
tomjefferson 4 points ago +4 / -0

Oooo scary parts kits

3
2ifByPee 3 points ago +3 / -0

So they were headed to melborn fl.

4
SloOlePede 4 points ago +4 / -0

Royal Tiger Imports is in Melbourne. They sell parts kits, meaning de milled rifle parts and new parts for builders. I'm betting this was a legit order for parts that was shipped in a way to avoid paper work and cost which will now actually cost them far more than they saved.

1
ginoB 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yes, the zerohedge article says so too

7
Tenspot20 7 points ago +7 / -0

Be very careful with this story folks, something fowl is "afoot" here! They are attempting to frame this story to go in another direction. These are bags of parts for guns or some other mechanical device as I now understand. I'll be in Melborne this afternoon and have an meeting with a "friend" who knows some "interesting details" regarding these (4) confiscated parcels.

Please keep in mind that there is a current attempt to control the amount of firearms and especially AMMO to the hands of the general public, and the media will flat out lie to reject this notion. Go check gun availability right now, now try to order ammo. Go check!

4
SloOlePede 4 points ago +4 / -0

Swing by this address and look for .gov cars 295 North Dr Suite A Melbourne FL 32934 That's a legit FFL who imports parts kits. I'm guessing this was the intended recipient and the CBP is just puffing up a benign tax avoidance issue into a "we saved America from thousands of guns" headline. But FFLs are going to get the colonoscopy for any paperwork discrepancies on imports. If the .gov is at that address it would go a long way to confirming my theory and if I'm right I'm pretty sure it's nothing to panic over. Unless of course the FFL is a front but I really don't think that's the case either.

Time for us to start arming the Hong Kong protesters. Two can play at this game. And we are better at it.

2
HumblePig 2 points ago +2 / -0

Biggest "problem" is that HK Protesters tend to be peaceful (actual "peaceful protesters") by nature and opposed to violence--for their own safety (CCP doesn't even pretend to honor a right to trial, etc.), and as a general culture. Would they even take and use them?

I think steel pins was the false or misleading manifest entry not actually what was shipped. Freight costs and duties are based on the manifest so shipping a high cost of duty and freight item intentionally mislabeled as a low cost item could save a few dollars on transportation and importation. Until you get caught. If the freight company catches you it's not to bad but CBP can make it hurt.

3
Wearyman 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not to nitpick, but it's thousands of PARTS. If you read the full article and follow the links, it appears to be mostly auto sears and suppressors labeled as "fuel filters".

It isn't crates of surplus rifles, it's shoddily made NFA parts. Likely going to Anftifa morons or newbie boog boys who don't know you can't just buy this shit off Amazon.

So when we want to whip up hysterical panic over some dude in Florida buying grey market gun parts on the cheap from China, the term 'assault weapons' is proper terminology? This doesn't look like CCP is trying to arm insurrectionists inside the US, looks like a plain vanilla purchase of something that's just easier and cheaper to get on the grey market than through legal channels.

3
JohnWickParabellum 3 points ago +3 / -0

We are in a Cold War with China... to think otherwise is laughable.

They need to conquer the west in the next decade or will never again have the capacity. Their one child policy is on the brink of destroying their military staffing requirements.

Plenty of equipment, but soon their will not be enough men to field them. When you commit to a nation of all males, soon enough their will be no more/not enough children being born.

3
BaldEagles 3 points ago +3 / -0

China is arming BLM. Change my mind.

3
pup1pup 3 points ago +3 / -0

Come on now. There is no such thing as "assault" guns. Let's be smarter than the libs.

3
TrumpKnowsKungFu 3 points ago +3 / -0

Normally I'm all for more guns in the US, but Chinese shit can stay in China. Rather have actual firearms that... you know, fire.

3
spezisacuckold 3 points ago +3 / -0

ALL guns are "assault guns".

3
2ifByPee 3 points ago +3 / -0

"Assault Weapon Parts"

China sickened the world, China illegally imported the drugs that went into George Floyd's system, and I suspect China is the source of the counterfeit cash that he attempted to pay with. China is now smuggling guns for an insurrection that they started to begin with.

Fuck China China is assho

2
RagnarD 2 points ago +2 / -0

From the article that was linked in the Zero Hedge article:

The group held a conference in Los Angeles with ‘military advisors’ charting out details of the ‘Black Opts’ blueprint – which stands for Black Opportunities. Black Special Forces officers are training the BLM’s Black Ops department of Black Opportunities.

and

Hawk Newsome, Chairman of BLM’s Greater New York chapter, said ‘We want liberation. We want the power to determine our own destiny. We want freedom from an oppressive government, and we want the immediate end of government sanctioned murder by the police. And we prepare to stop these government sanctioned murders by any means necessary. We are preparing and training our people to defend our communities. It’s our obligation, it is our duty to provide people with a pathway forward,’ he said

2
IAmCovfefe 2 points ago +2 / -0

PARTS! Let’s not be fake news here. This is likely someone ordering a bunch of parts made of cheap Chinese steel/aluminum to resell here. I don’t think we should jump to the conclusion that the Chinese government feels the need to send guns to the US. We have the right to buy our own (if you live in a free state).

2
misterLahey 2 points ago +2 / -0

This. MFing this.

Until we know the details of what was seized, I'm going with the explanation that the intended recipient in FL was some dude skirting ITAR licensing requirements and importing $2 shitty Chicom copies under the table to sell at a shop, via Amazon, or at a show booth for $20 each.

2
redstampede 2 points ago +2 / -0

There's no such thing as "assault guns", just guns.

2
teslaxoxo 2 points ago +2 / -0

Are they really smuggling or some firearms vendor trying to get weapon parts into USA without paying the tariffs or going thru proper channel? It's weapon parts and polymer right? or Broker is too lazy to put the proper information in?

2
ignorant_slob 2 points ago +2 / -0

What is an assault gun? Does it rob you on the lawless streets of liberal shitholes by itself?

2
nuffy 2 points ago +3 / -1

Thank you for your service to all of the customs officers! When can we glass China? No reasonable method is going to work with them, they are pure evil and I trust them about as much as I trust a muslim to not fuck a goat when left alone in a room together - zero.

2
HeavyHebrew 2 points ago +3 / -1

Now why would China be illegally shipping lower receivers (the one part you need registration for) to America? Tens of thousands of lower receivers.

2
BidensPoopyUnderwear 2 points ago +2 / -0

"Assault gun" - that's a new one.

1

2
Tonightm02 2 points ago +2 / -0

I mean in a country like America you really don't need to smuggle in any type of weapon. If America had UK type laws then this would set off alarm bells with me.

Once a civil war would actually get hot no one is going to care about the legally owned firearms that would be used to defend oneself and others. Not even in shit holes like California would they care.

Not calling bullshit on the story it is what it is. It's just you don't need to smuggle parts or weapons into America like this.

All you need is maybe access to one or two ammo dumbs if a civil war gets triggered.

2
Paul_Revere 2 points ago +2 / -0

GASP! OMG! Assault Weapons Parts! How dreadful!

Do they deliver?

2
Cledus 2 points ago +2 / -0

Can someone explain why this is a big deal? Since guns are already legal here I'm just not following what the article is implying and why receiving parts for rifles is grounds for confiscation.

2
Toast_SAR 2 points ago +2 / -0

the more dead Democraps the better

2
JudgeWhoAllowsStuff 2 points ago +2 / -0

There is only shit tier reporting on this. What were the parts? I’m not gonna give the ATF 100x credibility than I normally would just because the story can have a thin anti-chicom spin on it.

Possibly this was some cheap AR mfg like Daytona Tactical buying a crate of rails or grips from China and trying to cut corners on importation.

2
zigmund_fraud 2 points ago +2 / -0

This seems like a bit of a misleading headline.

People order weapons parts and other bulk items from China fairly often. Cheap knockoffs of high end optics are pretty common too. I wouldn't say they were shipping "assault guns".

Someone ordered bulk parts.
