This drives me nuts. They're doing it to determine if blacks are disproportionately pulled over for traffic stops. What if blacks are just disproportionately crappy drivers? I lived in an area that had a black demographic, 14%, roughly equal to the national average. But nine times out of ten, if I saw someone doing something crazy in traffic, it was a black driver. I personally think it's just a scofflaw attitude that causes it, because I had a brother (we're white) that did the same sort of stuff and always had outstanding traffic tickets.
And pedestrians too. I once watched a black woman jaywalk, over a shrubbery planted median, pushing a baby in a stroller! Damn white people and their designated crosswalks and traffic signals. Sticking it to the man!
Besides, who can tell the race of the driver when they're gangsta leaning?
I will do the same thing I do on every phone survey. I will identify as a black hispanic female. Of course, after driving for more than 40 years, I've only been pulled over twice, so.... it probably won't come up.
