As far as an AR-15 I think the best value is the Smith & Wesson M&P Sport 2 for an inexpensive and reliable 5.56
I like a lot of different handguns but you want to stay away from the cheap brands. Research reliability online but basically a semi-automatic under $350 is probably not going to be very reliable unless you got a used one in great condition. Better to have one with not a lot of features with great reliability than the other way around
