Chomsky conveniently fails to mention the academy as one of the ways the elites manufacture consent. Who's more elite than the people who educate all the elites?

True dissidents in America don't have cushy jobs as Professors at prestigious institutions. True dissidents in America are lucky if they can get a bank account, let alone a job.

I'm not defending Chomsky or even interested in debating his ideas, at least here. If I need to parse this out:

Chomsky, a socialist intellectual who has a background studying human language went to Google's campus and met with the heads of Alphabet (then Google). They told him what they were planning and he was so stunned at the level of transformative authoritarianism he was at a loss of words on how to label their intent.

When someone diametrically opposed to us is terrified of our opposition there may just be something more there.
