America used to be a culture that understood history and didn't let symbols affect them. Now, we don't. It's truly sad.

The truth is - Only the very rich, elite Southerners owned slaves. They didn't fight the war. It was the dirt poor who fought. The vast majority of them didn't even know anyone who owned slaves. They fought for family, homeland, and life. They saw an invading army coming into their lands and killing their relatives and friends. They could have cared less about slavery.

When I see the flag, I think of those guys. Not the people that were trying to get rich off the slave trade.
