Because when it mattered (aka when nobody knew who has virus at the beggining, and hospitals weren't ready), everyone did. People weren't allowed to leave house without mask. And everyone obliged, made their own mask and it worked. Then the virus got well tracked, nowadays everyone with it is locked up in quarantine and cannot walk streets spreading it, thus makes no sense to continue big mask restrictions. Everyone who those people got in contact with get identified as well, so we are ahead of spread.
Though, UK is bad example, they messed up the initial reaction and paid big blood price for it. The central Europe had waaaay better results.
Honestly the masks should have been the one thing you should have had same stance on as democrats. Because then you would have way more potent ammo to reopen bussinesses and economy again (everyone is wearing mask so why stay closed), but you missed this opportunity badly. But I guess it all goes null when they just do corona orgies in streets...
The second wave is real. It is directly 2-3 weeks after the protests started, with incubation period of 2 weeks. Those protests were all about spreading corona and you can connect the new cases to the places where protestors were marching.
