He raised a force of men from the steps of the church. Not only did he serve the wounded and dyeing but as Moses at war, raised his hands in prayer during the heat of battle.

Wounded at the Battle of Trenton, David Avery was at every major battle during the Revolution.

I’m so glad it’s good! I have DVDs coming for my patriotic outdoor film festival this weekend. We bought a projector and a big white sheet for the side of the house. Baking cupcakes, patriotic popcorn, blueberry cobbler, and Indian tacos! They might take our fireworks, but they’ll never take our fry bread!

It is our July 4th tradition to watch it every year.

Also--check out HBO's mini-series entitled "John Adams" with Paul Giamatti.

It is AMAZING. "1776" is musical and has humor, while "John Adams" is a drama with amazing, intense acting and writiing.

Both are avail on blu ray. I don't stream stuff... old school.

What a tremendous day that must have been!

In years past, I used to say Happy 4th of July. This year and every year hereafter, I'll be saying Happy Independence Day to remind everyone exactly what it's all about. My kids will be taught to do the same. Maybe it's pedantic, but I'd rather not water down the meaning by simply stating a date. Patriots understand the significance of the date, but I think there are too many who just think fireworks and not much beyond.

Everyone who signed the Declaration knew it would be a death sentence if England managed to squash the rebellion. Many of them gave up their health and fortune to support the Revolution. None was perfect as the perfect man does not, by definition, exist. But all were patriots willing to put everything on the line for their countrymen.

It should have been owned and run by the people.

All this time I thought Richard Henry Lee was Light Horse Lee. I essentially only knew Light Horse Lee for his nickname and knew that he was the father of Robert E. Lee. And so whenever Light Horse Lee or Richard Henry Lee came up in a book my teenage mind just assumed it was the same guy.
