If protestors even looked like they might turn something peaceful I to looting, and/or rioting? The locals wouldn't stand for it, and I imagine their version of Antifa is two 15 year old fucks who get together to plan out how to place BLM stickers on stop signs.

Yep. The cops have a duty to uphold the law. I have a duty to defend my life, my family's lives, and our property. I'll join the militia if I need to, I just need some more practice with my AR-15. Also btw, my 3 day waiting period will be up tomorrow and I can pick up my new revolver. Can't wait to take it to the range
I would really support that all adults of sound body and good moral character have some degree of training on firearms and how to follow directions. In cases of national emergency, I think it would be great if the citizenry in general were trained to take up their role as the unorganized militia and if able and needed, assist the police or national guard.
