CNN: Obama's job numbers continue to rise, despite Trumps efforts to kill the economy

34
agile_a 34 points ago +35 / -1

for reference Obama's highest job improvement for an entire year in his second term was 2.7 million. For Obama's second term in office it's average job growth per year was 2.5 million a year

Trump added 4.8 million in one month

if you include Mets that means he adde 8 million in 2 months

the Trump recovery on track to be far better than the Obama recovery

keep tabs on it. And remember to meme

To be fair though those 8 million jobs lost were artificial in the first place. We would have to compare before the coronavirus hit.

6
NotSorryLuvTrump 6 points ago +7 / -1

But if you give the stimulus and regulation changes so that the jobs are still there to reopen, that’s a plus in my book!

1
Konsaki 1 point ago +2 / -1

I'm still leery of calling the stimulus a good thing, though, since we devalued the dollar to do it...

8
DontCallMeSimple 8 points ago +8 / -0

Wonderful news for the country. Unfortunately for us in blue states this is very sad news cause this only means the covid media blitz will be 10 fold and the lock down will be more intense.

We will be severely punished for this development. Your sympathy is appreciated in advance

Block_Helen 3 points ago +3 / -0

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

2
CoreyAnder 2 points ago +2 / -0

Obama also had a near zero percent interest rate to keep the economy barely alive. There’s also the talk of how most of those jobs were part time or contractor jobs - ones with zero health Benefits. https://www.investing.com/news/economy-news/nearly-95-of-all-job-growth-during-obama-era-part-time,-contract-work-449057

1
N7fury 1 point ago +1 / -0

Good point. We were in a zero interest rate environment then as well

16
Reinholt 16 points ago +16 / -0

Also, all joking aside, as someone who works in finance: all of this is hand-waving as to causation in most cases, and it's extremely complicated. The president, in general, is less powerful with regard to domestic economics than most people believe, and some of our tailwind is structural.

The main things Trump is doing that influence this is picking a fight with China to get us out of the Prisoner's Dilemma situation we were in, and pushing up American wages (and possibly costs, but that is TBD), along with the R congress pushing through tax reform on corporate tax rates so US companies expand inside the US, not outside of it.

How much of that vs. natural growth is in the jobs reports? Who the fuck knows. But the point is don't over-assume and also always push on the margins where it helps, which is where I think Trump has performed best as president.

We are all going to die. This was previously established. Dems say it will be net neutrality climate change gun owners Obamacare repeal covid 19 reopening businesses that moves up the date.

Hopefully this all means nobody is buying this "muh second wave" horse shit.

9
50blessings 9 points ago +9 / -0

In California, there’s a bunch of people I’ve talked to while working at my retail job that says this coronavirus is bullshit. I had a 70-80ish year old lady say that this whole thing was a complete hoax and that it was all a ploy to oppress Americans. People hate the masks, and they hate being locked down. They just want it to be over with.

12
IMMORTAN_TRUMP 12 points ago +12 / -0

Anytime you see a lefty karen on facebook complaining about rising cases. Just ask "So what?". The only problem with rising cases would be if the death rate was still 3%. It's not. For people under 50 the death rate is .02%.

3
Block_Helen 3 points ago +3 / -0

For people under 50 the death rate is .02%.

And dropping.

I'll be going back in a month. Have to wear a mask all damn day which sucks. I swear I'm going to cut a slit in it.

Both are WINS...the jobs AND the DOW/NASDAQ. Lot's of middle class folks have their 401K's in investments.

10
anon572759 10 points ago +10 / -0

Mines only down about $5k even though the DOW is still down nearly 5k points. Bought a ton of large cap mutual funds at 22k. Once it recovers I'm probably gonna be up a ton.

7
muy_libre 7 points ago +8 / -1

Mine ain't even down because of all the shares I bought when the market was down! I've MADE money from my investments during this hoax! WINNING!

2
fadingecho 2 points ago +3 / -1

Lot's of middle class folks have their 401K's in investments

As if there's a choice any more. No company will do pensions any more because you actually have to run your business well and it creates unfunded liabilities so it is less likely for you to get bought out, which is the dream for a lot of them.

1
Signore_Pepino 1 point ago +1 / -0

“Unexpectedly”

The good part even for Karens is that everyone’s in the market ( even if most people only are super conservative investing wise )

So for anyone to root against the markets is moronic

Something like 60 million Americans have 401k's. That's not "the 1%".

It doesn't matter if a small group of people are becoming insanely rich if the middle class is getting richer too.

20
muy_libre 20 points ago +20 / -0

What's with the people in this thread saying a rising stock market isn't a win? Sounding like a bunch of damn lefties...

7
Jstchill 7 points ago +7 / -0

^ this. A rising tide raises all ships! Yes the rich made more but I come from a dirt poor legal immigrant family. I’m now middle class and my 401k is getting fat thanks to our President. My boat is rising, not as fast but it sure ain’t sinking the way the Democrats want.

I'm against pretty much any government involvement in the markets, so I'm with you there. However, to say a rising stock market in general isn't a win is pretty foolish. The entire future of the country rests on the stock market. My future rests on the stock market because my entire retirement savings is in the stock market.

What do you think would happen if the stock market dropped? You think these jobs gains would still continue? I think that's foolish.

4
joebud 4 points ago +5 / -1

This is awesome, Trump is a businessman.

However, aside from making the country richer he really does need to address the issues of the left going completely bonkers. Not just in terms of rioting but in terms of our corporations caving to them, we need laws about stopping this abuse of advertising. Advertising should be placed based on tiers of viewer numbers via a 3rd party company, they should have no power to take it away based on content. This is the biggest way they block free speech.

The companies would like this too, they don't want to lose access to customers but they are cowards.
