I started with real estate photography. Get your professional Drone license and some experience. Then you have to be creative looking for jobs. But you will find them listed. Often they want 50 hours of flight. Your drone application on your profile will keep track of all that. Most also require a 4 x 4 in the ability to charge batteries while mobile etc. when talking about powerline infrastructure. But really look at whatever big industrial thing is going on near you. There are oil wells just to the west of me and there are some pilots who make money doing those inspections.
All of these big infrastructure points have to have inspection reports. And it’s a lot easier to pay a drone operator to take a bunch of Hi-Rez images then to climb around

I do this job too! I also do real estate, 3-d Mine/construction meterics and HVAC roofing pics for inspectors. So it's still in it's infancy....but I got in good with a bunch of technical people by working at a University and knowing a lot of people.
If you have your Part 107 license and a lot of flight experience then you can land these jobs. Do a nationwide search on indeed and you'll see them popping up regionally here and there.
Do some research on these jobs and find your local company like that (for example in Mid-west you might look at Kiewit Power, in East might look A Georgia Pacific paper) --- All DOTs have Drone Inspection Crews (lower pay but steady state job) -- all Cell Phones -- all transmitters (FAA even has a bunch to control Air Traffic) -- You've got to find either: 1. A contract company that connects Business and Pilots 2. A job where you're the "Drone Guy" for a big corp.
I've done both of those and they are awesome.
Good pilots are hard to find. A lot of them are just hobbyists with no idea of ATC or Weather anything and they are not very professional.
I set myself apart by being over-professional. Knowing all the wind and ATC stuff just like I were doing the flights in a proper helicopter. Clients love that and so I get a lot of repeat business.
PM me I can send you a few Company Names and Technologies to look into. My main drone-staffing agency for example will contact me with jobs and if I need Infra-red for Farming they'll put me in touch with a place to rent the right equip.
Incorporate yourself so that you have some liability in case of crashes and you'll become invaluable.....Big Corps don't want the liabilities of having their own actual aircraft pilots do the drone work so if you make yourself a viable easy contractor then you get tons of work.
Look into Photogrammettry and how to do it with programs like Dronedeploy etc and then start talking to local const. and mining companies. One drone I fly at this mine can find a dropped cell phone over a 400 acre mine....or tell you how much dirt was moved from one place to another etc etc....those things become INVALUABLE.
A survey crew is easy $1k per day....a drone with the proper set up and knowledgeable pilot can do their whole job in 30 minutes for (in my case) half the price.
Set up job alerts in many places near you with "UAV" "DRONE" "PART 107" and then swoop in on the job and offer to the "drone part of it" as a contractor.....so your local news station has an easier time hiring a weather man if you're taking care of the drone work. Real Estate Brokers are the best contacts--- cut them good deals and tell them you need help networking. They know everyone and make shit happen
