My TDS mom keeps bringing up how Trump's a child rapist or something, and I don't know enough about what happened to tell her she's wrong (because, obviously, if there was any real connection we NEVER would have stopped hearing about it from the mainstream media).
She keeps saying how years ago there was a lawsuit between Epstein and these girls, and the girls lawyer made a corrupt deal to keep Epstein from jail, then Trump hired that guy.
So how exactly do I tell her she's a moron? (in the most polite way possible, of course)
Explain that Epstein's not just a pimp, someone in intelligence is involved somewhere, and it simply isn't played that way. "Let's back up and talk about someone less recent".
Think of him like Hugh Heffner. Near Literally everyone significant has some ties at just one step. Showed up at all the "everyone invited" parties, always had the beauties ... barely legal. Ish. Every name in Hollywood - even the ones you love, everyone.
Nothing innately problematic yet. But someone (like Ghislane Maxwell) is watching whose eyes go where, who can be enticed, who cops a feel, all the little details.
"You should come to my place, 1000x better" ... handed out to the people they want in the trap. And any big parties they can sing too. Hugh Heffner's Mansion ... famous , and ... also infamous if you listen to the non-fossilized press.
This is still not "Pedo Island" - this is an event at Epstein's(Heffner's) house - plenty of people have been here too. (See: Dershowitz, Andrews, and everyone else). But since it's his party, well, he can do the catering, the wait staff, the ... massage room. A stuffy "Of course their eighteen!" or two, and a couple vats of alcohol in everyone... and now you've got them in a place that's wired to the gills for the little pats here or there, or the crossing-the-lines in the 'massage' or, whatever. People would volunteer to be Playboy Bunnies.
They're trying to catch people. From a law-enforcement perspective, this is basically nearly entrapment, but they aren't law enforcement - they're spies
There's a couple "Person X standing with Person Y" photos of all sorts of people, almost like "Stand here for a picture with the hostess! I insist!" And you can see Trump (And Andrews, and long, long list here) in some of those photos.
The problem is the next layer. "Hey, I saw you touch the caterer, sh'e underage you know" if they want to lean on someone, or "I have an even better place, and it doesn't fall under regular US law ..." if they think they can simply lure them there.
We haven't seen anything from this layer but allusions - but there's Epstein's Island, and there's a New Mexico ranch at the very, very least.

Acosta - who would later be in the Trump Admin - said "Someone in intelligence told me to stop digging here" in the old case. This is the guy your mom latched on. IMO, he was never 'close', just 'close enough that no one would ever ignore this story'.
The second Trump announced (practically) is where the 'underage rape' story comes from. I've forgotten the precise allegations, but there's a nice formal looking suit ... that has (from what I can tell) no backing. It just gets dragged up every time they need to deflect.
I don't know that I'd try to "defend Trump" so much as prepare her for "And all your heroes are pedos". I don't know a particularly good Heffner expose, but there just has to be one that's at least a warm-up for how widespread this is.
