The fact that they're so wilfully dishonest in their discourse is what ultimately proves that what they pretend to stand for is not what they stand for at all. It's one of the most frustrating things when dealing with fence sitters. They keep harping on about "muh two-sides", but refuse to acknowledge that the one side is fundamentally dishonest, which makes the two sides completely unequal. One side IS better than the other side. If the two sides were equal neither would try to silence the other.
They think white slavers marched into Africa and just rounded people up?
Yes. That is the picture being painted in our schools in present day America going back to at least the mid-90s.
BBC has an article "White Slavery," which is supposed to be about Slavs being abducted by slavers and sold to Muslims. Muslims castrated the slaves. They specifically go on a tangent about how white Europeans abducted Africans from the coast.
On the subject of muslims castrating slavs, I am slavic. I dated a Muslim woman. I like to think I busted enough nuts in her to enact a little revenge for my people.

Yeah Sowell points this out in the chapter about the real history of slavery, I believe. The book Roots is (as was the intent of the author) a myth with only one foot in historical fact. So yes, many black Americans (and whites as well) DO believe that, just as the book shows, white slavers went inland to hunt for slaves rather than buying them at markets as was the world standard at the time.
Even Roots-the-miniseries does it better, false fraud that it is. You can CLEARLY see a bunch of rival tribal Dindus stalk Kunta Kinte in the bush before they gang up on him. He manages to kill like one of them before they manage to bring him to ground and shackle him, before they then march overland to sell him to the ship's crew.
Which is one of the reasons why in spite of being based on a great big bunch of lies, Roots is at least halfway plausible as historical fiction and somewhat entertaining.
Ethiopia - last week Haacaaluu Hundeessaa of the Oromo people (the ethnicity other Ethiopians kept as slaves) was assassinated in Addis Ababa for speaking out against prejudice towards his people who are the majority in Ethiopia.
