I feel its a slap in the face when i am told i am a racist and have white privilege and owe reparations when i was raised in poverty that may of started when the breadwinner of my family was killed fighting for the north and led to a cycle of poverty i grew up as part of.

Yeah. What about all the POOR white people? What the whites who are in poverty -- who have little to exist on? What about them?

And what about all the Americans who died for the 13th Amendment?

What the BLACK slave traders/owners?

What about the Blacks (and White/non-blacks) who came here AFTER the American civil war??

Sleepy Joe says “poor kids are just as smart as white kids,” therefore, white people cannot be poor. 😉

And what about white slaves? People always forget the Irish children stolen from their homes and sold into slavery. Kind of like they forget about modern day slavery that still exists all around the world. But of course it's white Americans who ended the practice that are evil. Fuck racism and fuck identity politics.

The United States of America lost 5% of its adult male population freeing the slaves and securing the union.

In the late 1800's, the loss of a MALE family member was staggering cost in the lives of families.

The cost we have already paid ensured an entire generation of slaves were freed and stopped another generation from being born into slavery.

100%. Fuck these people that think they are entitled to gold because of what happened 150 years ago.

I read that both Biden and Kamala Harris were descendants of slave owners. Trump gonna have a field day with that info come debate time. XD

So I will chime in.

My family did own slaves, plantation house and all, while also helping the Confederacy during the Civil War. Nowadays, some family still lives in the home, and some of the slave houses chimneys and brick slabs still exist, although they are weathering away. It's actually a beautiful place.

With that said, you don't, and will never see, an ounce of racism directed towards a particular group from us. In fact, I learned that after the war they still provided for the (former) slaves and sponsored their education, willingly. It wasn't a stereotypical Hollywood scenario like the Django movie, etc.

My point is, no matter what side/walk of life you come from, you're still going to catch flak from whatever group feels threatened enough to be sponsored and manipulated by big wigs pulling the strings. I actually have a very diverse group of friends. All this loud BS coming from media mouths and hate groups is just weaponized propaganda meant to divide us coming into the next election cycle.

Stay vigilant and focused, and do not let these clowns ever falter your stance and position in life. Hold your morals high and keep moving.

Firstly the deeds of your ancestors do not define you neither are you are burdened with them, be it good or bad.

Secondly, slavery was a common practice then, though conscientious individuals did what they could to reduce or stop them, while there were some who were humane to their slaves, of course, there were many who were not. With that said, a common practice of a time is part of the history and it cannot be and should not be attempted to 'fix' as long as its effects are not harming the present.

For e.g. a lot more people around that time were what would be in today's term deeply misogynistic, and nearly ALL of them I bet were homophobic or transphobic.

We can't realistically expect that during a hypothetical great LGBT uprising we will try to remove those who were anti-LGBT, that would mean nearly all of the contemporary history. We have the gift of present to make things better instead of trying to fix history.

Another potent example is Prophet Muhammed of Islam was homophobic, slave owner and misogynistic, the documented evidence is right in their holy scriptures. Imagine attempting to fix that part of history by trying to remove his identity. Sometimes I do wish these BLM and Antifa lot attempted that, the outcome would be pretty interesting.

Fuck off with your whining and virtue signaling. No one is responsible for the actions of their ancestors, good or bad.

While I empathize also realize the civil war was about more than slavery. It was fought over sovereignty and what was perceived a a tyrannical government. The north weren't a bunch of boy scouts.

I don't care if my family owned all of the slaves. You can't expect innocent descendants to be responsible for things we can't control.

My family came to America after the Civil War. Scot Irish. No one alive today was a slave. So now we are saying we need to pay for the sins of past generations ? How about England paying for how they treated the Irish ?

Yea it’s because of the insane narrative the media is pushing. Fake news is the enemy of the people.

I know of at least one of my ancestors who owned a slave. The slave's name was Jan and he was bought for 50 beaverskins in the Mohawk River Valley. I'd have to look up the year. I guess he was probably black, there were black slaves in the North. It's sad, but sad things have also been done TO my ancestorsl. Everyone can say the same. We just need to move on.

And if they did, and if they didn’t, would you be any more to blame?
