I learned that the hard way. Programming is a difficult skill. Not easy to learn, and even more difficult to actually be good at. BUT almost useless on your own. It soaks you up. Really. Ability that could actually accomplish great things just gets eaten up by the machine.
Solving complex problems is really fun. It's challenging and engaging. It pulls you in. After 30 years, I started diversifying, and learning other things. It turns out that I'm, actually, very good at a lot of things now, and they're all rewarding. But I'm, also, almost 50 and burned out. Many regarts. The system is just there to suck you try, then spit you out.
I was a technical editor working with software. One day I was working hard at my computer. A programmer stopped by, I must have said I was tired...she said "It consumes you, doesn't it?" You're right-- very draining and requires full concentration, but there is a sheer joy in the challenge.
I agree 100%. Full stack here and it’s no longer what languages you know, but what framework and they invent a new one every day. Since I’ve been gravitating more towards UX I have more time to explore other things

Good point.
You forgot the tactical aspects of this. Trump has been try to highlight that the left hates America. This moves amplifies the notion.
They have to be working first for it to be their hard earned tax dollars.
Their goal is to destroy the country... You think they're gonna feel bad about the national debt? Hahaha
Their end game is to be like Venezuela or another failed state out of history that tried Communism. They don't care
