The ongoing hurt feelings stem from those who assumed Britain was going to respect Arab independence in the area in exchange for them fighting alongside Britain to force the Ottomans out of the Levant.
It has more to do with the McMahon-Hussein correspondence, the Sykes-Pikot agreement, and the Balfour Declaration than anything that happened before the work up to WWI.
