Since my kids were small they had to listen to me read them the Declaration of Independence before they could got rolling with sparklers every 4th of July.
My 27-year-old daughter just texted me from where she now lives in NYC and said she's reading the Declaration today.
Me too. Now she is inspiring me.

We took our kids to Jockey Hollow (Morristown National Historical Park) today in NJ to walk the trails where the Continental Army encamped during the winters of 1779-1780, 1780-1781 and 1781-1782. 1200 acres of undisturbed woods, great for reflection on the sacrifices they made, and the strategic genius of Washington as a general.
Reading this always gives me chills and brings a tear to my eyes thinking of all those who came before me in this country and gave their lives so that I and we could continue enjoying the freedoms for which they fought.
Thank you for you doing your part. As Lincoln said: "...that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
