Basically the subreddit mods buy the domain and then the TD mods give them the info needed to connect it to TD's servers. This isn't dangerous. Even if that info leaked out the domain connected wouldn't do anything. It's the same as connecting your domain to a hosting company's name servers.

Do they install the software on their own server and connect to the db?
If so, then any dirty commies that start a win get to see the inner workings of ours and can compromise our credentials even if they're a trusted part of the win network.
Example: Comments all over here said KotakuInAction 2 is rightwing and KotakuInAction 1 is the one that bent the knee to reddit. So is KIA1 a security risk to our win?
They can't compromise your password because I'm sure that the credentials are stored in a hashed + salted form, so they'd be compromising hashes of your password, which is probably not useful to them unless they have a quantum computer to crack them.
Maybe T_D admins run a datacenter that T_D admins control, and the mods of each subwin (???) point their domain to T_D servers. That way T_D still controls the authentication. I don't know

If that list of communities is not on every .win site in the community, and has the extra friction of having to go to a different site to check if a .win site is legit, that makes it much more likely that someone will simply click on a link in a comment and get their credentials stolen. The list needs to be on every sidebar so it's a very simple and fast check to see if a site is legit or not.
The whole setup of multiple domains sharing a login system is a big security risk, but it's probably gone too far now to change it. And even if they didn't share a login system, it would still be a risk because of password reuse.

Pro tip: Use a password manager.
Use the password manager to give every account it's own random password. This way if someone does get a .Win password it won't work anywhere else. With the current method you don't have to use the same username for all your accounts, you can if you want to, but some of us like the privacy of having a different username for each sub.
I can't recommend a password manager enough for everyone here. There exist people and nation states that want to silence you and take over your accounts to do bad things. Using a password manager you lowers your attack surface because you're not reusing passwords which is the biggest online threat everyone faces.
Also setup 2FA on your email provider. Email is really the most valuable account to hack as it lets you in to most sites because most sites don’t have a super robust password reset security system in place.

I use KeePassXC but it's complicated for non-power users to get working with the browser extension so I recommend everybody else to use BitWarden.com it's free or $10 a year. BitWarden also will import your Chrome passwords. I'd also recommend completely removing Chrome from your computer and using Firefox or Brave Browser if you want a Chrome-like experience with the BitWarden extension installed. Also remember to TURN OFF the password manager inside your browsers so they don't annoy you and just use BitWarden. Then completely delete your Google Account history: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/465?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en and I go as far as running a dedicated browser to remain logged into big tech sites and another for actual internet activity so it's harder to track my web activity history.

The problem with advertisers is once you let them in, you start getting addicted to their money. As a result, they gain some power over content posted here as they can threaten to pull their money every time they see something they don't like. So the mods saw an opportunity to poach a massive amount of former redditors towards an alternative that actually supports free speech instead of them going to places that lie about supporting free speech. We could do the same thing... Except that's inherently limiting growth by requiring a new SLD to be purchased per community. Reddit has THOUSANDS of subreddits. Purchasing thousands of SLDs doesn't scale. This is very basic sense for tech startups. I mean come on, even with separate SLDs the same admins would also still control ownership over these separate SLDs which means it doesn't really address the most pertinent concern of the sites getting taken out by out of control admins or subverted a la Reddit. Reddit used to be based as fuck. They got subverted. Nothing about this site's technological structure prevents that from happening at all. It's still centralized. The one thing we have going for us is that the admins and mods are ideologically aligned with us -- at least for now (again, think about Reddit's history). The ONLY thing that could really prevent subversion of admins and mods is decentralization.
But look, if we want to keep a centralized site here are some solutions:
If you're worried about hostile hosting providers then we can self-host (if it isn't already, I haven't checked).
If you're worried about hostile domain name providers, we should if we haven't already be looking for something blockchain related like Unstoppable Domains.
If you're worried about payment processing for upkeep costs we should crowdfund and use cryptocurrency to support the site and make it resistant to hostile payment processors like VISA.
TL;DR: There are easy to implement long term solutions to address these concerns without handicapping ourselves.
