So many of us were good little liberals until GamerGate. We supported the causes they wanted us to support. Then they came for us, and we learned about their lies.

I like to think that when the marxist establishment is reduced to rubble, we can all look over it and say, "We just wanted to play video games".

What actually happened with gamer gate? I’ve never really understood what the scandal was that kicked it off

So, this dude has issues with his ex and writes a blog post about it. He complains that she cheated on him with five different guys over the course of the relationship. Someone reads the post and realizes one of the people on that list is a game journo who wrote a puff piece about the ex's game. Some people get angry at the journo for not disclosing their relationship with the creator. Journos from all over the industry start claiming this whole thing is a harassment campaign because gamers cant stand to see a woman succeed in tech. People dig and start finding connections between the games journo industry and the indie games clique. All of the sudden every games publication puts out near identical opinion pieces with the same sentiment, "Gamers are dead, gamers don't have to be your audience." At this point many realize the games industry is rotten to the core and dig further. A group chat called GamesJournoPros is found revealing journos at all the publications talk about how to spin the narrative about any given topic. People get pissed and the journos double down on the "Hate Campaign" narrative. The mainstream media picks up the topic, probably tipped off by someone in the industry, and keeps running the narrative. "Poor women are being harassed because they dare to be women in the games industry," becomes the only approved talking point and saying otherwise gets you unpersoned. Many of us walk away from the whole thing with our eyes opened to all this crazy bullshit. We just wanted to play video games, man.
