Trump went to military school for a number of years. I went to a different military school for nearly all of my secondary school years, but when you drill every morning from childhood you definitely know the proper way to salute.

With head uncovered indoors we would say the pledge with hand-over-heart salute, and outside of school would of course use the hand-over-heart salute for the flag.
