They know that if the US and India make a solid alliance against them, China is FUCKED hardcore. If the US moved a portion of manufacturing to India, the Chinese economy is hardcore screwed over.
We don't really need India to beat chyna's ass, however it would be a YUGE strategic advantage to have frens who are parked right up their kiester! And realistically we would be hurting without India in the aftermath of a world with a collapsed chyna... economically speaking.

India would be a great crutch for moving manufacturing back to the US if it was done properly. We don't want to become wholly dependent though.
I think having allies like South Korea and India in that region helps a ton in case there really is some major issues.
