We really should start doing private schools. The Amish do it, we could too.

Vouchers to select what school you want, redemption for homeschool funds if your kid passes standards.
Reduce High school to 2 Years.
Run an aptitude test.
Free trade school or community college depending on score.
Funded 4 year degrees in STEM programs to those who do well on merit.
Otherwise military training or straight into the workforce at 16.

Stop the hand holding bullshit that keeps kids delusional until they're in their late 20s.

I hope Trump really works on the education system next term! Our k-12 is seriously lacking, and the fact that prison meals are better than school meals is unacceptable. Our universities need a lot of work too, swamps to drain.

You're lucky, I work at an elementary school and they're horrible. Trump could still fix a lot federally tho. Or Betsy DeVos I guess.

The children need help. I volunteered to tutor kids after school my fifth year in college. The fifth graders I was in charge of couldnt do basic multiplication because of the asinine way they were being taught. It was no longer memorization. Instead they drew circles and put dots in those circles for every single problem.

I don't disagree, however, public education by its very nature is flawed. The ideal situation would be to eliminate public schools altogether and institute a voucher program allowing all parents to send their kids to the school of their choice.

Well there are conservative colleges. In fact they may be doing pretty well compared to the liberal ones.

For K-12, groups of parents should be allowed to pool their resources together to educate their kids in a manner somewhere between homeschooling and private education. They could team teach. That way the burden of homeschooling is not always 100% on one parent and they can educate their kids without the high expense of private education. Surely they can handle basic reading, writing, arithmetic, basic science, geography, etc.

It would be up to the individual families to handle subjects like religion - (done at home and church); advanced music (kid takes music lessons); sports - (join the local soccer league), etc.

If anything good comes out of this virus I hope that a lot of parents are reconsidering the way their kids are taught.
