I understand the sentiment but don't you need to actually be symptomatic to get tested, outside of the few and far between pre-surgery screenings and similar testing protocols?

Not anymore. Now that we have much more testing capacity, in certain areas you can go and just get tested. They set up testing spots near Minneapolis because of the protests etc.
