Rescued a black lab when the kids were young. Best family dog ever. She loved the kids and they loved her. We always thought that the worst she could do was lick you to death.
One day she went with me to get new tires. Gave the keys to the sales manager and said not to worry about her, she was harmless. She would not let him get in the van. Even after he came back and got me, she would not let him drive. I had to drive into the service bay. Then she went back to sleep. Best dog ever. God I wish they lived longer.
Yeppers, our best friends will protect us during these trying times. They at least know bull shit when they see it. Got me a cattle dog puppy, the thing with heelers is they do not bark or growl they just attack without warning when they feel their people are in danger. But beware they are not good around children and they take major time to train and keep active. But it is way worth it.
