Yes. He was an ardent Republican.

No one cares

This is one of the worst tactics Republicans use. No one is voting for a political party based on what that party was doing before they were born rather than what they are doing now.

Would you vote democrat because the Republicans were involved in the Teapot Dome Scandal 100 years ago? Of course not.

Learning history (real history, not biased progressive crap) is very important. But if I cared about what the Republican Party used to stand for instead of what they stand for now I wouldn't be voting Republican, because I loath former Republican leaders like Hastert, Bush, and Romney.

I like Trump because he's different than Republicans who came before him. He supports tariffs, restricting immigration and opposes endless wars in the Middle East.

The takeaway is supposed to be that the democrat's sudden switch from segregation and open KKK support to building a welfare state for blacks was little more than a cynical and amoral ploy to win votes, and it was not motivated by a desire to help blacks. Nor do they really care today they just want to get votes.

Now it's true there is a huge chunk of black America that has become so culturally bankrupt that this kind of argument is meaningless to them. They just want to get free shit and blame whitey for the shit they do to one another and themselves. But there are a lot of black Americans who have their heads screwed on straight and for them I think it is helpful to bring up the history of the Democrat Party.

"the democrat's sudden switch from segregation and open KKK support to building a welfare state for blacks"

It wasn't sudden. FDR was first elected in 1932. LBJ's great society was more than 30 years later.

"cynical and amoral ploy to win votes"

Like how Republican politicians claim to support social conservative values but never stand up to progressives on social issues? Or how Republican politicians claim to support fiscal responsibility and small government then rack up debt and vote for the patriot act? Or how democrats and republicans both claimed to always oppose illegal immigration then freaked out when voters wanted them to actually do something about it?

I'm not just trying to be cynical, all I'm saying is campaign on what works. Most black voters aren't going to vote Republican because they like welfare and affirmative action. Why wouldn't they? Who doesn't like money for nothing and laws that give them preferential treatment just for existing.

The small number of black people who might consider voting republican are small business owners, police officers, and deeply religious social conservatives.

These people are mostly going to like the same things that white people who voted for Trump like. Law & order. Policies that put American workers first like immigration restrictions and tariffs. Fighting back against policies that compel you to pretend insane people can change their sex via surgery and hormone therapy.

The process of using the public purse to buy the votes the poor did start much earlier yes, but it wasn't until LBJs "Great Society" that the Democrats started the welfare programs that destroyed the black family. Before that black unemployment was low, black teenage unemployment was lower than white teenage unemployment. Poor people of all colors used to work for their money in this country, they had much higher marriage rates, and we're far more religious. Then a bunch of college-educated white liberal social workers started going door-to-door trying to get them to sign up for welfare, benefits which paid more if you were unmarried. They literally had to go out and try to get people to take welfare in the beginning, and the focus was on black neighborhoods.

The unrest that you saw in the 60s and 70s was caused by left-wing communist agitators that were trained in the University. It wasn't an organic lower class uprising anymore then black lives matter is an organic movement today.

The project to get black people on welfare was always in part about getting political control over them, the rhetoric about helping and having compassion was just to move forward their agenda. This is important for people to know so that they can better understand what's going on today, along with the other stuff that you mentioned. We can walk and chew bubblegum at the same time, and even if we don't make the fully sophisticated argument that should be made, it's always good to remind people of how openly racist the Democrats used to be until very recently, because indeed it does make them suspicious on a basic psychological level, it plants a little seed of doubt.

We aren't talking about voting. We are talking about why his statue was torn down. Even if there was no one alive today with his character. They would still hate him. Probably even more. Political parties and labels don’t matter. They tore him down because they hate what he represents. Responsibility. Or just because he was mentioned by potus and a few retards are petty shits.

Why you are getting downvoted is beyond me.

Yeah but we don't blame the dems for the teapot dome scandal. They blame us for slavery, and it does change minds when people figure it out.

Julius_Severus -3 points ago +2 / -5

They don't blame Republicans for slavery they blame white people

AlphaOmaga 3 points ago +3 / -0

Funny. You’re right. But they are wrong. White people didn’t invent slavery. But white people sure did end it. (Mostly... I mean there’s still places like Libya. Thanks Obama)

He was an associate of Lincoln, so automatically, he was evil.

Actually, he's one of the proposed statues for Trump's new garden of heroes.

It's disappointing how these statues are so easily removed;

they should be so solid and heavy they require construction machinery to bring down.

2
nutup_orshutup 2 points ago +2 / -0

They should be electrified.

No Steppe Statue.

Poor failure leftists. It's not their fault that they were raised so poorly. They didn't choose their parents.

3
Salt-N-Pepe 3 points ago +3 / -0

They don’t know their parents

1
Freedombunker 1 point ago +1 / -0

It’s not just their parents. Their teachers are complicit too.

In B4 they claim this was white supremacy payback for the other toppled statues.

You know how they work by now. They don't like black people who don't support their agenda. And also blamed the black people for their failures too.

My great great great great grandmothers best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who heard Frederick Douglas say the N word a couple hundred years ago. I guess it’s pretty serious.

These angry morons don't know who or what they're attacking. They tore down a statue of a stag in some state. It's an animal, and it wasn't racist or white. 😂
