The only explanation for giving a country that can’t make kids toys or toothpaste without poisoning it, full control of drug manufacturing is.....Democrats

This is why China won't go to war with anyone. Drop one bomb on that sucker and you've crippled the entire country!

JoeBob 12 points ago +12 / -0

But they don't care about the 400 million people... or the 1.2 billion people.

4
sleepinggiant 4 points ago +4 / -0

Actually it would be a godsend to china to lose 400 million people.

Donarudo_Taranpu 2 points ago +2 / -0

You're right, but it's not the people China needs, It's the electricity the dam generates.

This is looking like it could be a pretty dam big problem. Sorry couldn’t help myself.

You're dam right.

This is gonna be a big disaster.

2
Destineed369 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yea where can I get some dam bate?

ColoradoTrumper45 1 point ago +1 / -0

Try the dam giftshop.

Is this a god dam?

I was about to ask a question regarding whether Bing and Google use the same satellite image source for the dam, thereby explaining the supposed "stitching" effect, but I think I answered my own question. Yandex uses imagery from Airbus DS, a European satellite, taken in 2017. It shows the dam nearly identically to the US images. There's trouble in River City, China https://yandex.com/maps/profile?l=sat&ll=110.999490%2C30.818586&sctx=ZAAAAAgBEAAaKAoSCfFmDd5XtSVAEXmxMEROl0hAEhIJAAAAAICFWEARloc7zTinQUAiBQABAgQFKAowADiN0%2BOP24Ps9FZAgP8GSAFVzczMPlgAagV3b3JsZHAAnQHNzEw9oAEAqAEAvQFs%2BLY9&sll=110.999490%2C30.818586&sspn=0.011973%2C0.005648&text=three%20gorges%20dam&z=17

The movement visible in the photos is on the order of meters. Concrete doesn't have that kind of flex capability.

This is gonna be a disaster on the order of that tsunami back in '04.

1
freebirdie 1 point ago +1 / -0

Even worse imo. That killed 200,000 while there are 400 million at risk under the shadow of this dam.

They've been doing some emergency flooding to relieve the pressure..but even that might have a big impact of washing away the farmland downriver.

2
ScottyGunn 2 points ago +2 / -0

I read that they can not dump enough fast enough to relieve the pressure due to heavy rains upstream.....

This, is exactly right. The Chinese grad student of 1990 is not the students we get now.

Many of those students are strong conservative Americans with no more contact in China. The current ones not so much.

Yep

Any chance the NBA could schedule an exhibition game in a nearby town? I hear they love everything about China.

God dam puns.

2
defroach84 2 points ago +2 / -0

That really sucks for the 400 million or so Chinese people downstream who just want to raise a family and can't relocate because their government is full on fascist.

2
seaside_dreams 2 points ago +2 / -0

It is. I think they relocated a bunch of people just to build that thing.

2
Donarudo_Taranpu 2 points ago +2 / -0

The article says that "now the dam is displaced" like it's a bad thing, but I don't speak dam. What's that mean (I assume it's bad)?

3
istrucktheboard 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's shifting because of the pressure of the water. Instead of being straight like it used to be, it's now a bit of a wavy line as parts of the dam are pushed back. They're fucked.

1
Donarudo_Taranpu 1 point ago +1 / -0

Wow. I don't know much about this sort of heavy engineering, but I know that dams aren't supposed to do that. I'm surprised that's even possible. I didn't think concrete could bend without crumbling.

Well, when their shitty enormous dam falls apart I'll remember how every "made in China" product I ever bought also fell apart and laugh.

2
istrucktheboard 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's shifted because they didn't secure the separate reinforced concrete sections to the bedrock. Dam building 101. Then they invited Western expert engineers to have a look and they told them that they were fucked. So they shouted racism and didn't do anything. Now they are really fucked.

1
knightofday 1 point ago +1 / -0

its messed up ,their so called worlds largest dam is warping if u have any doubt just do a google map pinpointing to the dam u can literllay see the deformity happpening in between. A dam is allowed to move (tolerance) of about millimetres in case of flood, this stupid dam have crossed that and shifted in feet wise. Their very own engineers said the dam doesnt meet the quality standards , hearing this objection they asked for foreign quality controls to inspect the dam (germany)they also said the same thing. The gov rejected their findings and called them racist for pointing out the faults in their dam.

I remember hearing about the possibility of this dam failing years ago. Apparently they've done nothing about it, and now it's too late. Maybe it makes me a horrible person, but I cant drum up much sympathy for them. Guess I've seen one too many videos of dogs being boiled alive by them to care.

But this is very sad for the people.

Yes. I lift them in prayer... may God save them from danger, and from their own government.
