I found his videos a couple of years ago. I was trying to talk a relative out of buying a "good deal" Range Rover back then. He wouldn't listen to me but Scotty got through to him. Mostly. He wound up driving a Subaru.

The only thing I think Scotty is wrong about is Kias and Hyundai’s. He kind of mocks those cars but over the years they have become as reliable as Japanese cars. You can buy a used Kia or Hyundai for such a ridiculously cheap price, and they are reliable, super easy to work on and manufactured for accessibility of repair. For example, to replace the fuel pump, most vehicles require you to drop the fuel tank, but kias simply built a hatch in the floor of the vehicle. You just lift up the rug, open the hatch, and access the fuel pump.
For the same price as a 2005 Toyota, you can have a 2012 Kia on the used market.
There we go. That's what I love about this place, I learn something new every day. The fuel pump access door is genius. I had no idea. I do remember when Hyundai/Kia made their move into the US market and offered the best warranty anywhere. Are you in a road salt area? How do the bodies hold up?
Not too much salt where I am but the previous owner had the car for the first 6 years from original purchase and he lived in Ontario, where they use salt all the time. There is a bit of rust in the rear wheel wells, which is common for vehicles that don’t have those plastic liners for the wheel wells. Without one of those, you’re risking rust around the wheel wells no matter the vehicle. Rocks get kicked up by your tires, chip the paint, and then water can get in under the paint and cause rust. I see a lot of Hyundai Tucson’s on the road with these wheel well protectors. My Kia Sportage didn’t come with them, so I have a couple of rust spots.
