Legit question for curiosity's sake: what's so wrong with the masks?

The psychological and tyrannical problem with the mask mandates is that they are forcing the majority of normal people to alter their behavior based on the risk to a small minority of people. This sets a very bad precedent (and overall way of thinking) where normal individuals must conform to the weakest of the group.

A similar dynamic is at play when individuals are prevented from saying certain things because the emotionally weak may suffer distress from the words. Taken to the extreme (which will happen if permitted), you would not be allowed to wear bright colors or play loud music because the vibrancy may hurt some people's eyes or ears. Take note that, yes, this actually does happen in the real world. It's called Sharia Law. No music. No flashy clothes.

The physiological problem with masks is that you're introducing a "foreign body" or blockage into the human respiratory system. The human body has evolved to function optimally in its native configuration, and this includes dealing with immunological challenges. Masks interfere with normal gas exchange, humidity, and the clearing of deleterious particles from the lungs. It's like tying a rag over the exhaust pipe to your car. The car will run, but not very well.

Masks can be used to good effect in very specific circumstances, but to have people conduct their lives while masked will cause problems, that in our current situation will probably result in a net negative effect for otherwise healthy persons.

I just want to say that if wearing a mask saves the lives of the elderly, which it does. Then we must remember that many of whom are active voters, and Trump voters at that, so I absolutely want them to make it to the election. If Dems win, the radical shift will make masks the least of your thoughts.
