It's too bad Russia doesn't have a sense of freedom. Even after overcoming communism they still don't fully appreciate liberty. It's sad really.

Well they have had their own version of slavery that ended in 1897 (or so), and then internal movement throughout their own country was tightly controlled by government sponsored temporary "passports" that lasted during the Soviet union and in a diminished form even today. Today in the former Soviet union it is basically a permit required before you can legally reside in a given city.
