We need to stop hating on Putin.

He can be a good ally.

I find that hard to believe. Our geopolitical interests are separate from one another and he is corrupt as the day is long. The Russians aren't going to be friends with the USA. Luckily however we don't need them in the slightest to be great. Their economy is about the size of California and Texas combined. We shouldn't let them be relevant as long as they act hostile towards us in Europe. I believe we should alienate the Russians and the Chinese and set them to compete with one another as well, then Putin has hostile relationships with someone on his Southern and Western border (China and NATO) and the Chinese are also surrounded by U.S. allied and opposition gov'ts (Japan, Korea, India, Russia, Afghanistan, Taiwan.)

We definitely should lend all possible support and encouragement to India as they are China's largest regional competitor and are much more likely to be friends to the US. We even share a cultural similarity as former British subjects and a belief in Democracy.

Obviously these are my armchair general beliefs. But we should not forget that the legacy of the Cold War persists in Russia and they blame the USA for their government's collapse.

Why are you so sure Russia and the USA can't be friends? Isn't Japan an ally even tho the USA dropped nuclear weapons on them? For sure that is much worse than the cold war tension that didn't end up in dropping nukes.
