Fair question, but I do have to be careful. I’ll speak in trends. In my experience, the people who are furthest left are generally the most unhappy and emotionally disturbed. A major theme is an external locus of control, poor interpersonal boundaries, and emotion dysregulation. That doesn’t always reach clinical levels, and definitely doesn’t apply to every lefty (some arrive at that philosophy through different processes than deflecting from emotional issues, such as elevating a single Biblical concept to central importance), but it’s a trend!
My analysis is that the principal affliction of the leftists is their ego and arrogance. The abomination of an ego that they have, has blinded them to accepting any reason that might lie beyond that to which their ego has become addicted to. Their ego is addicted to receiving that weird smelly juice called the leftist propaganda, and they cannot fathom any reason or goodness that lies outside of it.
God can fix this problem because believing in God requires a person to accept that there is something bigger and more grand and virtuous that lies outside of you, that there is an absolute truth which you have not yet reached, that there is an ideal that you need to strive towards, that you are capable of making mistake and so have to try to learn.
What the leftists call as learning is bullcrap. They just wish to re-inforce their beliefs, which secures their ego and feeds into their addiction. Which is why anything that runs counter to their ego makes them cry like people being weaned off of their addiction.
Evil can appeal to many people, for many different reasons. The appeal of evil, as opposed to truth,is it does not require any conformity to specific ideals. The left advertises this fact, with their promotion of "intersectionality".
They promote their movement as having no ideology, so it has equal appeal to the morally corrupt, the criminals, the selfish, the vain, the weak minded, the narcissists and the lazy.

My point is that evil does require conformity to specific ideas / ideals. Most of the time evil is to satisfy selfish hedonism. In the current situation, it is a combination of selfish hedonism but also to the "ego".
"vanity" is the devil's favourite sin. vanity is just one of the many different manifestations of ego.
