My parents made me get a job when I turned 16. Middle-aged now, I have never NOT worked, and I have never taken a penny of assistance or food stamps. Millennials in the company scratch their heads trying to figure out why I have what I have.
I'm sure it's white male privilege in their heads. I mentor several of them who have bigger cable and phone bills every month than I spend on all utilities combined. They can't figure out how I put 30% of my income into investments. And when I tell them I canceled cable television 11 years ago...I just get blank stares.
