I actually brought this up to a lefty and she said that blacks had a different family unit and it was unreasonable to expect them to have the same family structure of white people.

Remember black family shows in the 90s? Family Matters was one of my favorites. It looked an awful lot like the white family shows of the time too. I guess it only takes 30 years for the structure of black families to change completely. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I know several intact black families. One of the best 'model' families I know is a very religious one, the father coaches women's soccer (He's like a black Brett Kavanaugh) and he makes a point of showing up to things like my son's birthday, baptism etc etc.. despite the fact that he only COACHED my ex and her sister like 20 years ago. I don't know how he manages to find the time to be a part of peoples' lives but it's truly amazing the spirit this guy brings with him everywhere. People shout 'Hey Coach!" in public.
His wife is white, but his 2-3 kids are all grown up, doctors and lawyers and shit. All solidly black and not trapped in some victim mentality.

She sounds like a racist!!!
Could she explain 'what' the black family unit/structure looked like then?
No doubt Matriarch + 7 kids each with diff fathers, a pyramid scheme of welfare and child support payments.
Us old folks remember intact black families in the 60s....
