My son's girlfriend, in my own house, told me not to use that word. I literally yelled "Okay, retard!" and she left. The problem fixed itself.

I said ‘stop being a retard’ to my preteen and friend when they were acting dumb. They were absolutely gobsmacked. You can’t say that! Yep. I can, and stop being retarded. There is nothing wrong with the proper usage of advance and retard.

Like you said, Words also have multiple meanings. Words also change meanings over time. Like the word nice used to mean idiot. I find liberals to be very nice.
