Chloroquine is effective in preventing the spread of SARS CoV in cell culture. Favorable inhibition of virus spread was observed when the cells were either treated with chloroquine prior to or after SARS CoV infection. In addition, the indirect immunofluorescence assay described herein represents a simple and rapid method for screening SARS-CoV antiviral compounds.
You could be right. And if so the title is very misleading YourDaddyKnowsBest
That said. The study does reflect some very important early findings:
"We have identified chloroquine as an effective antiviral agent for SARS-CoV in cell culture conditions, as evidenced by its inhibitory effect when the drug was added prior to infection or after the initiation and establishment of infection. The fact that chloroquine exerts an antiviral effect during pre- and post-infection conditions suggest that it is likely to have both prophylactic and therapeutic advantages."
His parent organization has known since 2005 that chloroquine was an effective treatment and prophylactic for viruses just like COVID. The evidence has been there (published by his parent organization) for years. It has a lot to do with Fauci.
Which parent organisation?
The paper was written by people from the CDC and Clinical Research Institute of Montreal.
NIAID is a part of the NIH.
Both NIH and CDC are parts of the Department of Health and Human Services, and the HHS is a huge umbrella organization.
One might as well say that the whole world knew about this paper since 2005 since it was in public domain.
Is Fauci a lying prick? Yes.
Should everyone making statements have done basic literature search? Yes.
Did Fauci know of this research? Likely.
Did he have anything to do with this paper? Unless he knew the authors personally - no.
Ok, you were referring to the accuracy of the tweet wording as opposed to the significance of the article. I agree the tweet saying “Fauci approved” is not accurate.

While it is much appreciated, this paper is not related to Fauci. It doesn't even come from NIAID.
