Yup. My mother is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids. This week-end, we were in Chinatown and she asked a young woman wearing a mask a question about something for sale. I was too far away to hear the discussion and later said: "Well, what was it?"
My Mom said: "I don't know. I couldn't hear what she said."
The young woman was a white and spoke English so there wasn't a language barrier.
True. People with certain disabilities cannot be made to wear masks.
The mouth is part of American Sign Language. Many signs require the touching parts of the face.
If you are deaf, you can ask that the person speaking to you remove their mask to allow for lip reading.
If you are hard of hearing, you can also ask that the person remove their maks to hear better and also remove your mask since your own voice is muffled.
If you have hearing loss, you can't be made to wear a mask given that lip reading is out of the question and masks muffle sound.
I have great hearing and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten people to repeat what they’re saying through their masks!! It’s awful
