Programmers like myself are often drawn to big-city jobs, where the money is and also where you're tacitly expected to hold certain values. About half of the engineers I work with are reasonable and moderate, despite living in a very blue city. The rest bleed blue. No one is publicly conservative; they would likely be ostracized.
Wish I could say I experienced that. First company I worked at I left because they all would worship Obama while at work. Current job is better since they don't talk about it but I have a feeling I'm still minority in opinion.
Yea, anything can give you away. Someone said they were going to shame me into not using plastic straws. I said, I'll stop using them when you stop wearing clothes made from plastics. Whoops! That stopped the "shaming" but then they of I was a Trump sport supporter. Fortunately the company was failing so they laid everybody off like a month later.
I was about to schedule an interview with a company in Chicago when the CEO told me on the phone interview that they really like to talk politics at work and they welcome all opinions.
I cancelled the interview because I know that despite the words used, it actually just meant I'll have to listen to SJW bullshit all day long at work, and if I spoke my opinion it would cause conflict (and probably a meeting with HR).
There are a lot of very smart people that have really dumb ideas. Just look at Brett Weinstein and his dumbass unity party idea. Even coworkers that say moderate things privately from time to time snap right in line when it matters, and they are just as bad as the crazy SJW crowd.
It's unfortunate, because I think the sentiment was fine, politics shouldn't be taboo, but that's just ignoring reality right now. If you think a company can create a space for free speech and not get sued into oblivion you are lying to yourself. Also, he had mentioned a couple things on the phone that pretty much told me he believes all the same shit as everyone else.
Freedom to speak uncontroversial things is not freedom.
THIS! I'm looking for something like this and would love to network with Pedes in search for a job where I get to talk to other Pedes without fear of losing my job for being an outspoken conservative.
I mean I can make medical videos no one will watch. Or I can explain hypertension and why you need your meds while I show you how to rebuild an engine. Or just how to rebuild an engine lol
Sign me up. I've done some perl and python scripting, but I'm totally onboard for more serious programming languages. Especially if it means ensuring my time and money were going to a based operation.
BASIC is one of those languages if you see it pop up run the other way. There are usually major problems at that company. In 2000 if you saw it no issues. Now? That is some serious legacy junk. Usually meaning the management does not care about you or your work. Just crank it and make it work.
If you want to get into banking java/python all the way. The major banks all use it in their internal systems. Most of what I am seeing is people are moving towards some backend in REST (python, java, node, and a few random C# shops) with the front end in JS (angular, react). From what I can see everyone is moving away from stand alone desktop programs. That should hold you over for the next 2-5 years until the next programming fad.
If you are contractor, that is the equivalent of a tear down. I'd never agree to do maintenance or enhancements, but I would definitely explain the errors of their ways and recommend a complete rebuild using modern tools. If they agree it would be very lucrative, and the right thing to do.
Oh I agree and you can make good money doing it. But the problem is they usually do not listen to their own people and brought in a contractor to fix it. I use it as a 'company smell' of management rot. Unless they bring you in with 'the previous 3 managers let this sit I am fixing this' forget it. Take the money and run. Ignoring what the market is doing is a clear sign of a company that does not know its own customers. I can goto a recruiter and get a C#/java/angular guy pretty quickly. But getting a VB6 guy in is going to cost me.
Yes, the programmers are usually the most conservative people of any company. From what I've seen, liberalism is inversely proportional to a person's ability to write decent code.
Good idea. We can post a ton of online Programming courses. I learned more from online then I did taking programming in Uni. It is a fucking joke. They tell you to uses online resources. You pay the Uni just to get a degree.
College is useless in the internet age, other than a few highly specialized research or engineering fields.
Really the only other physical location schooling should be trade schools.
and I'll subscribe! I'm in networking as well but my skills is entry level and I'm looking to expand my skills. Been looking to pick a brain or two on network stuff as well as sys admin and programming.
I'm in. I'm the lead developer on a major Gov't project, and enjoy teaching people how to code. My wife even bought me a high end mic to start a YouTube channel teaching.
Talking about ycombinator? If so, I read on it once in a while but I've noticed some liberal views in there. Wasn't sure if the whole site is liberal so I stopped going there.
As for so many liberals in programming, I've noticed it's usually liberal businesses that tend to overlook conservative programmers because they can hire their own (liberal) relatives or (liberal) family friends...or bring in cheaper overseas workers.
If this happens, I'd like to join. I know a few languages but have a stats focus: SAS, R, SQL, python, java, javascript, some others I'm forgetting or older languages not much in use. (languages in order of decreasing fluency)
We are all conservative here, most of us are pedes. Unlike the left we tolerate and expect people to have varying opinions on some topics.
I hate to throw this out there, but here goes... I want to see a Tesla.win
I really like Technology and Tesla. I'm not into the whole human caused global climate change thing. I do think the cars are amazing though and find the /r/Teslamotors full of liberals. I know there are a bunch of conservatives that are on /r/teslamotors, I've seen quite a few conservative posts.
I’m with you, Teslas are legit for non-globo-homo reasons. They’re quiet (inside and out), fun to drive, and I imagine it’s convenient to leave home with a full “tank” each morning. Plus the gas/oil only needs to be transported en masse to power plants and not to a million little gas stations. Fewer gas trucks and storage facilities means fewer leaks, fewer spills, fewer hunting/fishing grounds getting polluted, etc.
Is there a legit path to learn to code and work from home that isn’t a money making internet scam? Because I’ll sign up as someone who lives in a rural area and wants to become more independent financially.
Someone want to make a "reparations calculator" site? Make people add extensive information about their heritage and ethnicity to determine how much they are owed in reparations and have it always add up to $0.
Yes please! I'm in tech and would love to read/discuss tech stuff with other Pedes! I've since left r/technology because it got really liberal and there's always an article or two on why Net Neutrality hurt their fee-fees and I'm tired of seeing them crying all the time.
Programmers aren't that liberal. There are many conservative coders out here. The liberals are just louder and more tyrannical.
Programmers like myself are often drawn to big-city jobs, where the money is and also where you're tacitly expected to hold certain values. If they don't talk about it, you can bet that they are conservative.
I'm so glad I got out of that career path after college. Started my own business instead.
Still program personal projects. No lefttards saying I can't use git master or make a blacklist.
They’re also pushing to changes ascii keyboards to include several new rows of gender specific icons, as well change the “alt” key to “trans”.
I don't know if you are kidding or not... If it's true please post a link.
I know the enemy. It will happen.
+1 to all of this, from a software engineer in Detroit.
Yea, anything can give you away. Someone said they were going to shame me into not using plastic straws. I said, I'll stop using them when you stop wearing clothes made from plastics. Whoops! Freedom to speak uncontroversial things is not freedom.
Good move.
These days, politics isn't just about policy positions.
The left is a cult and you don't want to work for people who are "ideologically possessed," as Jordan Peterson puts it.
We sit silently in our offices and laugh in Fortran, its the only way to be sure.
You've never worked with the huge swaths of junior engineers then.
True, the more technical the programming, the less likely someone is to be liberal from what I've seen.
Well that's because it's a meritocracy - and either it runs or it doesn't.
I’m sure there are an abundance of transgendered front end coders.
Yeah, in the sense that they only changed their pronouns and dress like faggots
Something about using logic and reason being necessary to be a good programmer might be a factor.
If the left has completely gone off the rails, then does that mean Ruby is a Conservative?
Sorry, couldn't help a programming joke.
We should do the same thing with other hobbies and trades.
I'd be glad to contribute to a metalworking community. Especially if we can get a non-youtube video hosting service for tutorials.
Count me in for leatherworking and taxidermy.
How about a trades.win?
THIS! I'm looking for something like this and would love to network with Pedes in search for a job where I get to talk to other Pedes without fear of losing my job for being an outspoken conservative.

Minds and Gab.
Working on bringing /r/skookum over to the .win community
Sign me up. I've done some perl and python scripting, but I'm totally onboard for more serious programming languages. Especially if it means ensuring my time and money were going to a based operation.
"serious programing languages"
As a primary python guy....stay the FUCK away from BASIC.
I'd use JS before I used BASIC if I had the choice...
BASIC is one of those languages if you see it pop up run the other way. There are usually major problems at that company. In 2000 if you saw it no issues. Now? That is some serious legacy junk. Usually meaning the management does not care about you or your work. Just crank it and make it work.

Oh I agree and you can make good money doing it. But the problem is they usually do not listen to their own people and brought in a contractor to fix it. In my experience coders are generally conservative. It is the Silicon Valley minions (very few of whom actually code) that are hyper-lefty.
Yes, the programmers are usually the most conservative people of any company. From what I've seen, liberalism is inversely proportional to a person's ability to write decent code.
Liberalism is inversely proportional to any useful skill
Can confirm, from personal history - the better my code got, the less cucked I became. It's like tapping into the Matrix or something.
I’d love a cross between r/programminghumor And r/technology
That’s be amazing.
Tech news and memes. Sounds good to me!
.#include npc.h
int main() .{
do .{ cout << "Orange Man Bad"; .}while(TrumpIsStillYourPresident == true);
.}
.//I know this could have been declared as void but I do what I want....
Why would you bring C++ into a happy place like thedonald?
Because it pays the bills and is a decent language.
Never let std's infect your code
The STD of my life
Lol! Whenever I try C++ I end up catching something
Because I like to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the reeeeeeees of their wymyns.
long leftistInsanity = 1000000; while (GEOTUS_IS_YOUR_PRESIDENT) { leftistInsanity += 1000; }
System.out.print("R"); While (true) { System.out.print("E"); }
I wish that was an infinite loop...
Me too, FREN.
[smiles in future proposed constitutional amendment]
LOL! Nerd humor in C code. It doesn't get more conservative than that.
YES THAT'S CONST, BITCHES!
I love this idea, and would love to join or help build it.
I think coders tend to lean more conservative than people think. Mainly because of a solid understanding of cause and effect and inputs and outputs.
Depends on the language...
I could go on...
*It's C based but deserves its own recognition
Rule 1: No cucks
Rule 2: Don't like it? The door is right over there.
Code of Conduct and Kindness. I don't remember where I saw it but it was absolutely hilarious.
Every year we have a catered lunch for xmas. Even the bad years. But every year the CEO lays down one of the most important rules of the office:

This is a great video that lists free online courses on data science.
You need a Network Ops Guru? Sign me up.
and I'll subscribe! I'm in networking as well but my skills is entry level and I'm looking to expand my skills. Been looking to pick a brain or two on network stuff as well as sys admin and programming.
I would enjoy having that community!
I'm in
Yes, for the love of God yes please! Not only do we need to reclaim Tech, we also BADLY need to reclaim Gaming.
Fuck /r/technology!
I want in. Let's set something up. Start with an email distro and let's do some work. I'm willing to help set something up.
Please! I've been trying to better myself by learning about coding. Coding and investing subreddits are the only ones I still visit.
I'm in. I'm the lead developer on a major Gov't project, and enjoy teaching people how to code. My wife even bought me a high end mic to start a YouTube channel teaching.
Yaay! I'm ready -- let's go!
Absolutely love to see something like this. Can't stand going to Hacker News anymore.
Talking about ycombinator? If so, I read on it once in a while but I've noticed some liberal views in there. Wasn't sure if the whole site is liberal so I stopped going there.
I'm in...I've done a bit of everything for over 25+ years. I'm not going to blast my creds here. But I'd love to contribute.
I like this idea!
Female geek here. I think that's a great idea.
As for so many liberals in programming, I've noticed it's usually liberal businesses that tend to overlook conservative programmers because they can hire their own (liberal) relatives or (liberal) family friends...or bring in cheaper overseas workers.
I'm literally shaking right now
The site can be used as a repository for failed media companies! As they go down the surplus salt produced can be stored here! :D
Print "learn2code.win"
If this happens, I'd like to join. I know a few languages but have a stats focus: SAS, R, SQL, python, java, javascript, some others I'm forgetting or older languages not much in use. (languages in order of decreasing fluency)
Similar skills to me. Are you in banking? :)
We are all conservative here, most of us are pedes. Unlike the left we tolerate and expect people to have varying opinions on some topics.
I hate to throw this out there, but here goes... I want to see a Tesla.win

Another sub I miss is /r/wallstreetbets.
Flame suit on.
I’m with you, Teslas are legit for non-globo-homo reasons. They’re quiet (inside and out), fun to drive, and I imagine it’s convenient to leave home with a full “tank” each morning. Blockchain/smart contracts used for voting would be one hell of a good way to verify election results. I'm all for a tech win!
If you are giving it free for mods to run, have a clause in there to step in and fire mods, if they decide to cuck out.
Code.win, python.win, ruby.win, java.win
We can build great apolitical or right leaning programming communities!
I've been interested in learning to code or program, myself, but I have no idea where to even begin. Something like this would be fantastic.
Start with python. It's pretty straightforward and easy to understand.
https://www.automatetheboringstuff.com <--- introduction to python if you're interested. Free book online, courtesy of the author.
Thanks. Will check this out.
I want to learn python.
Thanks man, I'll definitely check that out!
Conservatives flock to defense, libshits flock to Silicon Valley to make apps that track where homeless people take poops
OMG I would love to be a part of this.
I think this is absolutely genius. Well done!
I could help with this.
I can provide my python code on git to whoever wants to use/learn.
Retired now, but want to upgrade skills. I'm playing a bit with Raspberry Pi. I want a Pi Hole.
Hell yeah! From a programmer in scummy San Francisco, would definitely support.
Is there a legit path to learn to code and work from home that isn’t a money making internet scam? Because I’ll sign up as someone who lives in a rural area and wants to become more independent financially.
How did you create a new .win???
you can get .win sites on godaddy.com
Please don't point people to godaddy... for lots of reasons.
To answer the question I think was being asked (how to create a new .win community): you don't. Not unless you can convince the mods to do it for you.
To get a .win domain, buy one from a domain registrar. Preferably a better one than godaddy.
Namecheap has Domain Privacy enabled by default.
i think that's a stellar idea.
That would be awesome. Do it.
I would support this
Yeah, let's start by compiling a list of languages / platforms that have capitulated to the SJW Code of Conduct.
They recently got Linus Torvalds :(
Please make this a thing. I'm tired of going to that shit hole website that won't be named.
I'm literally in the process of learning to code right now. Please do it!
Someone want to make a "reparations calculator" site? Make people add extensive information about their heritage and ethnicity to determine how much they are owed in reparations and have it always add up to $0.

DO EEET
