I'm so old I can remember when this was a basic thing all children were taught.

As a kid in the 80s, they started selling us on "self-esteem." We never bought into that voodoo. If you want people to like you, be someone who people can like.

The nouveau theory was that high self esteem would lead to success. Absolutely ridiculous bullshit. Based on extremely sketchy studies done by people with a political agenda. The timeless truth is that success leads to high self esteem.

And how do you get success? By showing people what they are doing wrong, and telling them to do better, and showing them how to do it.

You don't get improvement by saying, "Good job!"

That said, you DO need to positively reinforce good behavior. When the student finally does something right, you need to say, "Attaboy!" and give them a sticker.

But if they do it wrong -- no sticker, no "Attaboy!"

Exactly. And sometimes you fail a lot on the way to success. Which is okay too. Persistence and patience and fortitude are valuable qualities. I was very fortunate in that I had a father who was always gently pushing. Just do 10 more algebra problems, you'll get it eventually. If you hit that tennis ball 50 more times your backhand will get better. Kids need positive coaching not praise for nothing.

Whatever they can do to muddy the waters of IQ = success predictor.

If they acknowledge that IQ is the primary predictor of success, then the reason for so many other of society's problems become perfectly clear...

IQ is a good predictor of success. And I don't want a surgeon or engineer or even an accountant who isn't sharp. But I've known some very skilled tradesmen who weren't the smartest. They shared certain traits like patience and the mastery that comes from years of practice doing a specific job. They might not ever become super wealthy but they were able to provide for themselves and their families. Maybe part of the problem is how we define success. No one is good at everything but most humans can find something they are capable of doing well. Even among high end IQ folks not everyone has the temperament to be a doctor or an engineer. We need excellent welders and pipe fitters too, for civilization to function.

I think you'll find that the men who build and maintain civilization are 100 IQ+

The men who innovate and change the world are 140 IQ+.

The intractable problems of the world stem from those who are <90 IQ.

Replace self esteem with confidence and we r good to go

I agree. Definitely the modern focus on self esteem in education is new and detrimental to making good citizens.

I disagree.

Everyone who loves this country and loves President Trump is special to me.

Part 2:

Anyone who holds you in high esteem without knowing you and only looking at your skin color is blowing smoke up your ass. Stay away from these people because they're most likely looking to exploit you in some way.

Exactly what I told my son since he was a little thing. Stand tall, look people in the eye and treat people the way you would want them to treat you. Oh yeah, and when you shake someone’s hand, take it firmly, neither squeeze to much or too little, hold for one to two seconds then release. If someone holds it longer pull it out and never trust that person.

Had almost same conversation with my son 10 ish years ago.

If the hand is limp, he will fold under pressure. Not dependable. Probably a leftist voter.

If they try and crush a handshake with a show of physical strength, they have no heart and don’t believe in themselves. Will stab you in the back.

Never break a handshake. Power move.

Totally agree, all the normies need to hear this message.

I mean, it doesn't apply to ME of course because I'm a fucking jedi. And the chosen one. Also sexy af. But everyone else really needs to hear this.

I have a longstanding plan to write a series of Children's Books to teach kids how shit really is.

The flagship title will be "Nobody's Special, Especially Not You." It's about a little boy who is raised to be a shithead by his shithead parents, until he spends a week with Grandpa and Grandma, and Grandpa straightens him out.
