Fair enough, theres a lot about scams like you initially thought this could be that dont sit well with me. But I guess moral of the story is to not click links
Any site that you use can log your IP. But it can get complicated. Your ISP and any hardware in between can read the IP's source and destination even when encrypted with https. However if you use a VPN, then the ISP and any hardware in between can only read the destination IP which is the VPN. The traffic that contains the real destination IP is encrypted. The destination appears as the VPN. However the encryption used at the VPN level is compromised at the STATE actor level as well as Big ISP level (Who do you think decrypts for the state?) Anyway all this data is captured and processed by the NSA, unless you are running some custom protocol. So you have a chance of being Anonymous with a VPN. But if the government wants you it won't matter.
Hoe do you know it can record IPs?
Nope just a sincere question, wondering if you definitely knew it was possible or not
