Regarding the July 6th Immigration Policy Change We are deeply troubled by the announcement today by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to ban international students from attending higher education virtually. This is a clear affront to safety measures that universities across the nation have had to put in place to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. UAW Local 4123 stands in solidarity with the international student community both within the CSU system as well as nationwide who will be affected by this policy.

We are also aware that the CSU has failed to keep its international student population abreast of the continuing changes to immigration policy from the federal government these past few months. We will be meeting with the CSU Chancellor’s Office tomorrow to discuss our contract as well as address this new policy change by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

We would like to hear from the international students working in our bargaining unit to better understand how this new policy change will affect them. We are asking for personal testimonies that we can take to the CSU to demand that they leverage their power as the largest public four-year university system in the country to help their international students.

If this policy change will affect you, please email us at [email protected] and let us know. If you would like your testimony to be anonymous, please let us know and we will keep your name confidential.

For those who are unaware of this policy change, here is a link to the news release issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement today.

UAW Local 4123

Aww maybe we should open schools? If you’re here as a student and you can’t be a student... well, gee. I guess you gotta go back.

Why are there foreigners in our universities? Every seat they take up could have been filed with an American citizen.

Can’t count the number of foreigners doctors I’ve seen that got to come to an American medical school so that they could go back to their home country and provide great care, that never go back. Their own country suffers, and we deny an American their opportunity.
