Politicians write the laws to specifically not to apply to them.
And that, right there, is why we need a "you first" constitutional amendment. All laws passed at any level of government right down to the town meeting level, will apply to the people passing it for N[1] years before being applied across the board.

Yeah I have some very liberal inlaws and they spout that crap all the time. Especially taxes and how they feel we should be paying more. Keep in mind they live in AZ 7 months and MN 5. I say to them, "so you choose to live in AZ pay lower State Taxes then here and then can honestly say tax us more?" I then said "if YOU want to be taxed more, there is nothing saying you can't pay extra in and give your over payment to the Gov." They didn't like that and it shut them up quick.
We are seeing why politicians were tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. They didn't have police protection back then I guess. So like everything else, the kings of the US granted themselves police protection, exemption from law..... they should lose it just so they will have something to think about when they make their decisions.
