I could probably figure it out again pretty quickly with a diagram. I'm old enough that Westerns were still a thing in movies and TV, and the good guys hanged the bad guys. Who were both generally white. So it was just one of those things you picked up back then, I was probably 10.

With the frequency of nooses found, you'd think everyone was getting their pioneering badge back in the Boy Scouts hayday.
I would think the opposite since most of the "nooses" found are not actually nooses. They think any rope with tied loop is one and freak out.
