The indoctrination in public schools is real. I went through it and noticed it myself. When I was in High School I was a relatively distrustful person, and I was very quick to criticize each thing being taught or told to me. The Marxist agenda isn't always blatant -- that's what makes it so insidious. But it is omnipresent and lies under everything.
It isn't always about WHAT they are teaching (though it often is, such as in the case of the LGBT movement) so much as HOW they are teaching it. You have to continually ask yourself questions to see the truth.
Which topics are they absolutely focusing in on? Which questions are they asking? Which positions in a history class are being taken as the "normalized" position on a subject? How seriously are you being taught "revisionist" theories? Which view are you not supposed to take? What assumptions lie under the topic being studied? What facts are conveniently left out? Who is being taught as the "good guy", and why? Who is the "bad guy", and why? What books are you reading for an English class? Not just WHAT books, but WHY are you reading those books? Are any of the books anti-american culturally? How are you expected to behave and interact with others in the school? What sort of take on "bullying" does you your school have? What are its actions regarding various social problems? Does your school take a political stance?
There are a thousand questions to ask, and as you find the answers, you begin to see the agenda. Kids are being taught that America is the bad guy, that our "privilege" is sickening and racial, to NEVER go against the grain, to NEVER question, to "critical think" ONLY superficially, to let someone else take care of all of their problems, to be coddled, to never fight back, and to normalize this twisted culture we are growing as the "American" one. It is an agenda that is weakening our children and culture and turning them against their forefathers.
And it continues in college, as i can also attest to seeing. 16 years of brainwashing is sure to sink in to a lot of minds.
It's not fear-mongering.
