To be fair, Abstract Mathematics and Abstract Algebra is a thing, and has practical use in mathematics and the real world, however, that doesn't appear to be what Terryology is.
So far as I can tell, that's just abstract in the sense that it doesn't rely on real world objects, just the numbers themselves.
Abstract mathematics is true and useful within some context, is probably the simplest way to explain it.
