Have been retyping this way too many times to try and make a proper answer, but honestly? I don't know that 12000 characters (or even 48000) would be enough to really dig into the answer on that. Even then, such an answer would only be my personal opinion of it based on evidence that I could not readily source, etc.
While knowing what happened is very important, and we need to know how we got here, I think energy is best spent right now on trying to fix the problem in the one area that we know for sure is broken: the education system.
Unfortunately that is literally a lifetime commitment which we ourselves will likely never see the benefit of. We have to teach today's children morality, ethics, integrity, self responsibility, etc.
Right now the education system only cares to teach them amorality, reliance on the state, deviation, division, and hate.
