Read the disclaimers on the mask packaging. That will tell you everything you need to know.

I'm not saying they are foolproof or 100% protective, neither is wearing a bandana while mowing the lawn to protect from allergies...but it helps. If it helps somewhat, I don't see what the big deal is and why we can't all get on the same page and wear them for a couple of months.

theultimatesean 6 points ago +6 / -0

Does it help though? If you have proof, please post it here.

Do you have proof it doesn't? We flattened the curve by social distancing and wearing masks in public didn't we?

2
theultimatesean 2 points ago +3 / -1

Lol yes kiddo, now back to mom’s basement!

-1
shoobydoo [S] -1 points ago +2 / -3

I am a grown man, successful in business, do not live in my mom's basement, and am trying to have a civil discussion. Also your name is Sean. This leads me to believe you drive a pontiac, have a neckbeard, and do in fact live in your mother's basement.

theultimatesean 4 points ago +5 / -1

Look, you’re lying and most of us know it.

You also made a hypothesis (“masks help”) and when asked for proof of your hypothesis could not do so. Anyone who has spent 15 minutes on this site can point you to dozens of studies where masks are proven ineffective against viruses and have possible negative consequences.

So I say you’re a troll. Deport.

-2
shoobydoo [S] -2 points ago +1 / -3

Seriously? Lying about what? It's not some nearly unattainable achievement to be a successful adult who doesn't live in his mom's basement...it is the norm. This place is becoming just like the Reddit we left. Don't dare share a thought or idea that the masses may not agree with. I think masks help and so we wear them, I wish others would too but I'm not advocating oppression. I'm just ready to see an end to the pandemic.

Mad_Hattie 4 points ago +5 / -1

Virus's thrive in moist wet enviorments.

What do you think happens when you wear a mask?

Have you thought about how maybe they WANT people to get sick?

Just for political advantage.

Have you thought that you may have read a few too many conspiracy theories? It's a global pandemic. The curve was flattened with masks and social distancing. Now due to riots and people no longer social distancing we are heading back up. I don't understand how this is controversial, let alone political.

1
Mad_Hattie 1 point ago +2 / -1

Have you thought about defending your assertions rather than obscuring any expectation of a defense with a democratic tactic of calling things a "conspiracy theory"?

Very bad optics.

3
holytrpbatman 3 points ago +3 / -0

Do you remember '15 days to flatten the curve!'. Wear a mask if you want to. It's your choice. You do it for 'just a couple months'.

6
RK_TX 6 points ago +6 / -0

How about this: govt recommmends a mask, and all of us as free sentient beings, decide to comply or not. No penalties.

5
jeigh44 5 points ago +6 / -1

Because there is no science saying if masks actually work! Governors are now demanding all citizens wear them based on what? You had Dr. Fauci and the Surgeon General saying for months that they do not work. Fauci has worked with coronaviruses for decades don't you think he would know at this point if masks work or not?

Yes, wearing mask is absolutely a way to keep the hysteria going and to impose control over people. When you see someone in a mask, it immediately makes you fearful and think of the virus. The virus which we know now has the .26% mortality rate! It seems like an overreach to bankrupt small business and mandate masks based on these stats, don't you think?

Wow, firstly go suck a dick.

You are jumping straight to outrage in lieu of having a civil discussion. It shows that you have no science to back up your answer either. I suggest sitting down with a copy of Dan Crenshaw's Fortitude (or audiobook if reading isn't your strong suit) and learning to channel your emotions in a productive and civil manner. Right now you are no better than the leftist mob.

Well Biggie, my wife and I are following the orders of her OBGYN who also turns out to be a Trump supporter. We use disposable surgical masks and throw them away when we leave the store. I think they must help to a degree otherwise surgeons would not just cosplay in them for the last century. I am not a sheep or weak, I just want what is best for my family. I am not threatening you or your way of life and I am a very productive member of society. Best wishes and I hope your choices work out for you.

Nope, just responding to an unreasonable reply to posting a civil question.

5
Mrs_Fonebone 5 points ago +6 / -1

Then you know nothing about science. It says on the box for masks they will not stop a virus. The only reason given by CDC and Lefties is that well/asymptomatic people MIGHT be infected and not know it--and larger droplets might convey it/--but their own data show that doesn't happen. Not even once. There is no reason for healthy people to wear these. You're entitled to your opinion but your opinion is based on false information and propaganda.

Super_Kmart 4 points ago +4 / -0

N95 single use masks are 95% effective. That is assuming they are handled properly and disposed of after one use.

People wearing the same masks over and over and putting them on with dirty hands negates most of the positive effects. It's more of a placebo effect than anything.

1
shoobydoo [S] 1 point ago +3 / -2

We are using the single use surgical masks. We throw them away after leaving the store and sanitize our hands before removing the mask. I feel like Monk

2
Super_Kmart 2 points ago +2 / -0

That is good proper mask handling. I cannot afford to buy that many, I haven't missed a day of work since the outbreak started.

-1
shoobydoo [S] -1 points ago +1 / -2

They definitely aren't cheap but our Walmart has been selling them locally in 50 packs. We just try to minimize trips to public places. We worked remotely for the 1st two months then came back to the office. Everyone thankfully keeps their distance and sanitizes regularly. It's about the best we can do.

Do you or your Wife wear underbritches? If you do wear underbritches do they stop a fart from being smelt when you let one go?

If you are serious then you must wear a full hazmat suit, self contained breathing air and hermetically sealed all the way around. Back in the days when I worked for Uncle Sam we called them fart suits, because they DID keep farts in there.

Masks do not work, in fact they 'probably' do more harm than good, they create a sense of false security so you may skip better tools such as distancing or avoiding crowds.

No, sorry, without even mentioning the fact of conditioning being done with masks the simple truth is they do not work. If you can smell a fart you can smell a virii.

'WTF' is going on is simply People are using their own brains to think for themselves, not being herded along like cattle. You say you wear a mask....ok, WHY? It won't stop a fart, WHY do you imagine it will stop a virii? Because CNN told you it would...?

If you're scared stay home, Free Men and Women will not.

I wear one only when I choose. If a business refuses me service because I don't wear a mask then goodbye to that business. We own a small biz and we do ask people to wear a mask, governor's orders and I don't wanna jeopardize my employees' paychecks. But we ask and that's all, we do not refuse anyone, we are very quick to understand you may not be physically able to wear one, we do not think we are your Master and so can order you around. We even offer you a free gaiter with our logo on it- it's an Eagle, jes sayin'. Like the commercial sez, 10 dollar value yours Freefreefree.

But if you don't wear a mask we still offer you the exact same quality service you expect from us. If a government inspector comes in, and in our business it happens often because sometimes they purchase from us, and notices someone not masked we explain we did ask but we are not a police agency and so may not force compliance with a non-Constitutional edict by governors or mayors. We have a sign out front, we have social distancing set up and like I say we'll offer you a free gaiter.... but no one shall be forced to wear a mask on our property. We will not require a Jew to wear a Juden Star, either....voulez-vous capische?

Why do you think wearing a mask helps?

This is the only mask which helps.

Fair enough, we are free people who do as we please. That's the beauty of this great country. I'm simply trying to navigate having our first kid during a pandemic. We avoid crowds when possible and wear masks when not. I understand they don't protect 100% but I would assume they serve some benefit. When we go to the doctor they check temperatures and require a mask. I highly doubt our doctor is part of some sinister conspiracy to control my wife and I. I'm not advocating for big brother or government overreach in regards to masks.

1
CovfefeNegro 1 point ago +1 / -0

Doctors are not necessarily 'good' people, many of them ARE conspirators of one sort or another. When doctors think they are dealing with viral toxins they suit up in full protective gear, not masks. Ask them why that is next time you go in there.

You 'assume' masks offer some benefit....damn Man, do you hear yourself there?

Good luck to you and your Wife and baby, Pray for Humanity, and do not trust doctors, they murder over 200000 people a year in America by malpractice/ignorance/agendas.

Masks are a personal choice issue. Do what you want and I will too. Just leave me alone about my choice as I will you.

1
shoobydoo [S] 1 point ago +2 / -1

Fair enough

4
nuhbin 4 points ago +4 / -0

they told you not to wear masks in March when it was spreading the fastest. it took them 3 months to admit that they lied about not needing masks because they wanted to stockpile them in case we really really needed them for medical professionals

wear whatever the fuck you want, but don't pretend you have the authority to make other people follow the advice of proved and admitted liars

that's about all

-3
shoobydoo [S] -3 points ago +2 / -5

I'm not pretending to have authority over anyone. I would just rather have the mouth breather behind me in the grocery store line keep his germs to himself. The problem is, since this has become a political issue, we are not able to get accurate medical advice. First it happened with the news, now the medical community. I just wish not everyone had an agenda or angle.

Doctors and nurses are not immune to ignorance and stupidity.

0

I would say they are more immune to it than the majority of the masses.

1
holytrpbatman 1 point ago +1 / -0

How so?

shoobydoo [S] 0 points ago +1 / -1

How does this have to be explained? Critical thinking skills. Their job is literally critical thinking. Mental toughness, ambition, attention to detail, and the ability to delay gratification as they suffer through 4+ years of medical school and residency. On average doctors have the highest IQ of any profession according to a University of Wisconsin study if you need a reference.

None of which prevents them from having biases, prejudices and letting themselves be steered by their emotions.

3
Mad_Hattie 3 points ago +4 / -1

Because even WHO admitted masks don't help.

Because it is a feel good action only

Because it IS a type of control. If they told us that wearing a gas mask or a hijab were required would you follow that too?

Why don't you question anything they do but blindly follow anything they say?

Thank you for your reply. I never harass others for masks or social distancing, that's their body, their thing. Would I prefer them to wear one, yes but I'm not going to lose my shit like the people in the videos all over the internet. Hopefully we will be done with this whole pandemic soon and Trump will sweep in November!

So you get about an hour of productive use of the mask, then spend the rest of the week breathing in microscopic mold, mildew, and other germs. Good for you.
