Yes. That's exactly what happened. We were laughed at and ridiculed. We were told that we were crazy. We were told our fears were baseless. Slippery slope fallacy they said.

I'll never forget my brother in law talking about how once gay marriage is legalized, the clock is ticking on a society. He made a specific point that it wasn't that being gay was a big problem, all societies have gays. But once a society starts pretending obvious things that aren't the same, are, it's pretty well over. After all, once it's legal, and the society sees the problems created, will they have the fortitude to turn it back? Of course not.
