If you’ve ever worked leadership for a complex project, you’ll recognize several factors that are important:

1. Morale is critical. Managing morale means trying to be honest, but also cheerleading and making promises, promises that by definition you cannot guarantee. If the teams don’t believe they can succeed, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy, and holding a strong belief, even if it’s not rooted in a realistic assessment, can be the crucial thing that allows you to overcome and succeed.

2. Morale and esprit de corps is tied to self-image, real results, and perceived near and far-term benchmarks. Of all these, real results are the toughest to fully realize, especially because the realized outcome is always some distance from the projected or imagined benchmark to which it corresponds.

3. Self-perception as a ‘winning team’ is a huge morale booster, and helps creates conditions for success. Past failures create learning, and the pain associated with them is quickly forgotten after subsequent successes.

4. Therefore, a careful balance between illusion and reality must naturally be maintained. A team on a winning streak operates on an illusion that the streak could go on forever. A loving parent operates on the illusion that they can raise their kid to be ready for the world of tomorrow. Illusions are necessary, just as disinformation is. Winning and losing are somewhat illusionary states.

5. ’The enemy gets a vote’ and ’The best plans last until the first punch lands’. Just because nothing ever goes exactly as planned, doesn’t mean that making adjustments, accepting delays, or suffering setbacks is failing. Leaders have to find ways of maintaining forward momentum, not become lost in lamenting the differences between reality and their teams’ hopes & expectations.

6. Knowing the explanation for why something happened doesn’t usually change how people feel about it.

7. Demoralization is a weapon our enemy uses against us. We elected Trump to BEGIN FIGHTING BACK, and he has been fighting and winning nonstop for 4 years. That doesn’t mean he can magically put the world back as if the swamp never existed. And it doesn’t mean the battle will be over when he leaves office. We soldier on and keep fighting forever, because that’s life.

That said, let’s take a quick look over your list of things you were ‘promised’ and ‘told’ (by whom?):

Mueller's team did lots of illegal things. -Roger that, and we know about that and can prove it because Trump fought them (so that’s a win, btw)

As far as I can see they will get away with it. -For certain definitions of “get away with”. They haven’t gotten away with keeping it secret, for example.

We were promised that shit would happen by now. Yet again. We are told to wait. -Complicated business, folks. A lot of shit has happened! And nobody’s telling you to wait to help achieve the next critical step — Trump re-election!

When Trump wins election, deep state heads will roll. Trust us. -Who’s the “us” who told you that? The Press? Anyways, under normal circumstances one would rightly have predicted that. But the swamp is deeper than anyone thought possible — President Trump even said he was surprised by how deep it goes.

When Trump takes office, deep state heads will roll. -The enemy fought back. They had a secret foolproof plan that Trump has since foiled. And ‘heads have rolled’ when you look at the firings and exposures. Just not the way you envisioned it would look like, because imagination always oversimplifies.

When Jeff Sessions takes office, deep state heads will roll. -Sessions was largely neutralized. Trump fought on regardless.

Mueller is really on our side. When his investigation is complete, deep state heads will roll. Trust us. -This was a disinformation tactic that both sides leveraged for different purposes. Did Mueller’s incompetence ultimately put him on our side? His report and his entire investigation ended up helping Trump and hurting the enemy.

Now that John Huber is on the case, deep state heads will roll. -Some interesting things have already come about involving Huber and his CF investigation. Did he bring charges and wrap it up like a movie’s happy ending? No. Should anyone have expected him to?

When William Barr takes office, deep state heads will roll -Barr has certainly achieved some things. If you count bringing forth the Mueller report and all it has wrought ‘rolling heads’ then...

With John Durham on the case, by the end of spring, deep state heads will roll -Sorry, but the world called in sick with the sniffles, and it’s slowed things down and pushed the expected timeline back about 8 weeks.

By Summer, deep state heads will troll, trust us. -By now you should be realizing that the “heads rolling” will look different than you think. It’s summer now, and the deep state is trying to incite riots and enact ‘1984’ just to stop Trump by any means.

By the end of Summer, deep state heads will roll, trust us. -You know, YOU also have a part to play in this. Are you doing the maximum amount that YOU can do?
