Hi everyone this is my first post on this site. Just a quick background of me I have been politically influenced because I lived in California growing up then moved to Ohio and will soon be going to the University of Oregon. I'm more progressive/liberal on social issues because I support gay rights, believe in climate change, support of public education, and Asian Awareness stuff. But I'm more conservative on 2A where I'll defend your right to own a gun, but personally won't own one, I'm Pro-Life but will make the exception to cases of rape, incest, and underage pregnancies, and now I'm anti-war bring our troops home. This is the first election cycle where I'll be able to vote. In the primary cycle, I was a Tulsi supporter because I felt like she had a good message. But what got me off the fence as a moderate was that the democratic party went so far to the left in such a short time that felt politically homeless. When I look to the left with a lot of my "friends" just pushing woke left trash that is regurgitated posts on Instagram where they only cite the ACLU and Feminist Instagram pages. And when I challenge their idea they call me racist, sexist, etc. Then when I look to Trump supporters they can actually have a rational conversation where I can change my mind on many issues. But what got me to "jump off the fence" was when my friend said that I should vote Biden because I'm Asian after I posted a Free Hong Kong post. And I got fed up and said that I'm not the Democrat's pet and I don't need a white liberal telling me what to do. Even though I disagree with Trump on some issues I fully support him now. Thank you if you read this post and look forward to having some political conversations.

I do believe that climate change does normally go about in cycles of warming and cooling, but to a small degree man has increased the warming a small bit with what happened over the course of 150 years, but we aren't going to die in 12 years and I do believe we should promote solar, wind, hydropower, and electric cars, and that we should decrease our carbon footprint with finding biodegradable resources to build electronics and certain buildings

If you have the spare time for it, I would advise you to look closer into solar and wind power, it's connection to energy prices, and the concequences of moving to these power sources.

IMO the push for solar and wind does not come from people who care about Earth, but those who care about easy government money. The hydro and nuclear sources get only negative media attention, while they are the way to go.

I'm not some eco-fascist to say only go solar and/or wind but it should be an option for people even though they are eye soars, hydro can be tricky to around as what happens downstream if the power is made with the use of a dam and I believe nuclear is a good option, but the only thing I got a beef with is where and what happens to the nuclear waste once the uranium/plutonium is used up and if there's a better way to discard to waste.

Nuclear is clean, consistent, and far cheaper than any of the other alternatives. Plus, there are places developing ways to reuse the fuel. Spent fuel is contained in multilayer concrete and heavily monitored. Over the lifetime of nuclear power, the waste is enough to cover a football field a few times. Think of what material goes into making those wind turbines and the land necessary, the views obstructed, and then they only work if there's enough current. Solar only gathers light half the day and a lot less when it's cloudy. Electric cars use a lot of materials gathered by slave labor in other countries. The only reason environmentalists aren't singing the praises of nuclear is because of propaganda following poorly managed and preventable disasters.

Welcome pede! Glad to have you here for honest discussion and dank memes.

In regards to green energy I agree with a poster above into looking at the total impact of so called green energy. An old saying is “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” Yes nuclear has waste and we need to do research to reduce and perhaps even reuse it. But for now it’s the best we’ve got.

Hydro is good, but environmental impact is huge. Flooding risks when dams break or underlying soil conditions weren’t known, animals no longer able to go upstream, deaths in then turbines, etc.

Wind power kills birds and bats, still requires petroleum for the generator on top behind that fan for lubrication as well as copper to be mined for the electronics, and worst of all the fan blades are reinforced fibreglass which is non recyclable and therefor gets thrown into landfills if they break.

Solar seems nice but the components for the panels come from strips mines(using equipment that isn’t electric and still relies on fossil exposure fuel to extract), has finite life spans and depending on your location may require a far larger installation than you thought due to your level of intensity.

A huge issue with all the green power is the energy on tap. When demand increases, there’s no huge battery pack where it gets stored because these systems are hideously expensive and also require replacing due to a finite life cycle. If we were to move to a setup like they have in the UK where water is pumped into a large man made reservoir with solar/wind/hydro/etc to store the energy and then released via the turbines to generate power on demand or in reduced generating periods I would be on board. Any leaks, it’s just water. But then depending on amount you still have impact on the local area and a loss of fresh water from public use. No free lunch.

Also electric cars are a nope for me. City dwellers can enjoy them but having driven 11 hours in a day to pick up a vehicle in the winter time, I don’t want my trip length doubled, my heat coming from a seat warmer or else i lose range and at -40 I want heat blowing on me from those vents and keeping my windows clear. They have a use and a place, but they aren’t a perfect solution for one and all. I never want my family members lives at risk because of an electrical ambulance or fire truck that’s out of juice halfway cause it was really cold this winter.

Once again, welcome! We look forward to more and more like you coming and speaking with all of us. :)

The Green New Deal was just too much with the demands in it with things that have nothing to do with going green. If the elements of the bill were broken up into smaller bills it would've had a better chance of passing.
