Nah man, I've ran battalion live fire ranges as an NCOIC

I've done the same. We've had no shortage as of late. The list includes training rounds.

OSUT has 4 additional weeks added to it that prior years did not

Good, hopefully that will be used to teach joe some squad tactics. We had new boot 11B's coming in that didn't know basic battle drills and said their DS told them they would learn those at their unit and talking about getting their cell phones on weekends. So wtf were they using all the training time for was my question. As of last year it's out of my hands now. Godspeed you that are still in.

lift fires

I was constantly amazed at how many people confused that with cease fire.

But there's literally zero excuse for a new boot in any MOS to leave basic not knowing, at a minimum, squad attack. And buddy rush. Like really understand it. Every day ea squad should split into opfor team and assault team and rehearse that. Then squad attack. There's time. Those are "basic" skills. Your weapon is useless if you don't understand these basic tactics. A fucking cook should be able to integrate into a fire team and know how to patrol and react to contact. If you're 11B OSUT you should come to unit knowing principles of patrolling, patrol base ops, comms, call for fire, 9 line, and TLP's backwards and forwards. But I digress. We're still the best military on the planet, but we could be better.
