There is not a single human being alive today, regardless of race, that does not have ancestors that at some point weren't oppressors and/or oppressed. Ancestors that fought wars and murdered, took slaves, and raped. And ancestors who were the victims of such actions. That's human history.
History always has multiple sides. It's not black and white (pun intended), it's gray. Sure some of the founding fathers owned slaves, but the nation they created and the Constitution they invented also enabled slavery to end and create the greatest nation this World has ever known.
This is a country that enables anyone of any race to make great contributions to humanity and be recognized for it. It enables anyone to be a part of history and create your own legacy. And a lot of people continue to make their mark because of America and because of what that past history has created and enabled. Trying to tear down and rewrite the past invalidates the present and destroys the future.
I wish those tearing down statutes and demanding we rewrite our history remember this.
